Am planning a 3 week trip to Morocco in my '96 Disco 1 this Sept. Did a similar trip two up on a BMW R100GS in Oct 2007 but cannot remember what paperwork we needed/ took etc, can anybody pls confirm:
1) Carnet - pretty sure not required?
2) Insurance - whilst yrs back 2004 (on another trip) Carole Nash did extend my European insurance on my bike for Morocco it sounds like (looking at the threads here) this isn't an option therefore assume will have to buy once over. Back in 2007 I recall spending hrs outside a tiny office in the port of Matilla (or Nadar) (having crossed from Almeria) and can only think that's what we were doing. May cross to either Ceuta or Tanger this time - are there similar facilities at these ports? Also any info on price would be helpful - by the time we have actually got to Morocco (and allowing for getting back) can't see us getting more than 16 days over there.
3) Breakdown cover - is it possible to get European break down cover extended for Morocco?
I will soon be renewing my insurance so if the answers to either 2) or 3) are 'yes' it would make sense to take this into account.
Last time did a loop that started in Nadar headed south, then down Todra gorge (entered from eastern side of mountains) , Erg Chebbi, Zagora, Quarzazate, Marrakech and back via Ceuta. This time as have our young daughter with us we are not so keen on driving quite so may miles.
Anybody got a suggested route thats gives a bit of desert/ gravel roads/ mountains & beach (for the little one)?
