I have just changed my timing belt on my 300 and done the timing. Then when everything was back togeather I tried starting it up and it was just clicking (like the battery is dead). So I swapped it for my other battery and tried to fire it up again and White smoke started coming out from somewere under and behind the turbo!!! Any ideas

I would start with looking at where the smoke came from. Have you knocked or chaffed the starter wiring or removed an earth lead and forgot to replace it.

Was it a loud single 'clunk' eveytime you turned the key or was it multiple clicking each time?
 
It's multiple clunking. I haven't touched any wiring. How can I find how if the piston is locked against the valve?
 
I have managed to get the engine turning over now, but it still won't fire up. Camshaft drive damaged maybe?
 
If it turns easily by hand with the glowplugs removed then you can assume it is not locking up (unless damage has already smashed things up)

then try to get it to turn over with the glowplugs out and see if you get a good puff out of each glowplug hole.

and then report back :)
 
FFS always turn engine over a couple of times with a ratchet and socket on crank shaft pulley nut after fitting new cam belt and recheck timing, first rule. Even haynes manual tell you to do this.

Oldskool - I did that and it was fine, but when I put it all back togeather and tried firing it up it wouldn't work
