Hi
Have a question re A\C fans on P38 Diesel
My radiator burst last week no symptoms running up to it etc etc
Fitted new rad and run up to temp (12 oclock on gauge) nanocom showing 99 Degrees. at 99.83 both A\C fans kicked in and it cooled down to 94 degrees. I hadn't refitted Viscous fan at this stage
did the last P38 Diesels already have your mod done mine is a 2002 as I have had it since 2006 and havnt messed with this side of things.
been running on new rad now for over a week and all good

Thought all the later models had the A/C Condenser Fans come on when the Temp gets above a certain level as additional cooling...

EDIT: Seems like only on the petrol model...the ECM can also turn them on when the car is off for additional cooling.

thanks so all good working as intended

It would seem so. Has always been a feature on the petrol engines to assist cooling in times of high temp and extra load, Eg when idling in traffic with aircon tuned on. Was introduced on diesel engined cars MY 1999.

It's the third sensor towards the rear of the head, however don't rely on it for cooling as on mine the sensor operates at 105C so the engine is very close to an overheat. My mod introduces and adjustable stat to bring the fans on just above normal temperature. You can then dispense with the viscous fan and cowl. Sounds like your viscous is shot anyway.

I have just done Datatek's mod to mine, along with a new water pump with the metal impeller, and new thermostat and new hoses. Its working fine now. Will be pulling the caravan in a couple of weeks, so think it will be fine this time.
The existing pump had a plastic impeller and the viscous fan was fubared i think as I tried the newspaper test.
Cant take any chances, My disco 300 overheated with my van on and cost me a small fortune being repaired at a garage away from home.

Hi All

Is the mod diesel only?
If petrol too, will it work on a 96 GEMS? Not to replace the viscous but to compliment it when needed.
Is this a stupid question?
Cheers
