Hi,

The front plate of my AC clutch fell off last week which I only noticed when it started to hit the fan!

Fans ok and managed to retrieve the plate but despite reattaching the plate the AC is no more? Called a local specialist in Cornwall who said I'd need a new compressor but there are lots of videos showing how to replace the bearing etc. LR dealer confirmed that they do not sell the clutch just the complete unit but he thought I'd find one on-line. Problem is I can find them for other makes of vehicle but no one seems to sell just the clutch for a Disco (Denso unit)? Anyone else had the same problem and will I need to fork out for a new compressor?

We had the same happen at the beginning of last year. the clutch unfortunately wrecked the rad as I was facing 45 degrees downhill at the time.
The loose clutch disc was damaged by contact with various parts of the engine bay before it stopped rotating.
I replaced the clutch with second hand part & the a/c worked fine immediately.
However, I do remember finding a 3 or 4 mm thick washer on the end of the shaft where the clutch nose sits ( the washer was slightly smaller outside diameter than the shaft & had probably an internal diameter about 0.5 mm larger than the retaining bolt.)
The washer was only held in place by a film of oil after the clutch exited!
Without the washer the clutch plate would be in a different axial position.
Assuming yours should also have a washer, is it still in place or missing?
Edit : Having Googled the part, it appears it is a standard part used to adjust the air gap in the clutch, so definitely necessary, but different thickness' might be used on different compressors,
