Hi ive got 95 p38 dse with 19 inch wheels on off 2002 model and sometimes get a really bad wheel wobble on the nsf , sometimes under braking , sometimes if it hits small bumps .done all usual checks w /balance , new discs , replaced leaky s/damper checked everything for play . im a mech by trade but havnt had much to do with rangeys so any help would be great thanks neil

Are you sure they are the correct ring & nuts the original p38 nuts are 27mm and the 1`s you should have would be 22 i think although i could be wrong.

What Tyres do you have on it - a mate of mine has a p38 with 18 inch wheels and 55 profile tyres - it had terrible problems with tramlining etc over rough tarmac and cats eyes.

this was with Gooyears on the front - when we swapped them for the pirellis that were on the rear the problem went away

My p38 needs tyres - and guess what - I am going to buy Pirellis just in case

Hi tyres are new pirelli scorpions 265 55 19 straight of new rangey , a little bit too big for p38 but shouldnt cause this problem .

The P38 is very sensitive to its tyres for some reason. I had mine balanced several times to try and eliminate wheel wobble. Only went away when I got a new set of tyres. I guess you've checked all the bushes.

R Plate P38 - I have a set of Sports Ally Wheels with special nuts for the RR - but I think that they came from a Disco 2 - problem is they don't center on the car, hence it runs like a "Circus Noddy Car", grabs your hand off the Steering Wheel at around 50 or on overrun. Any ideas mates for the 4.6HSE Autobiography (fitted both new front track rods & ends , steering box, alignment, wheel balance & front diff) - Help!

If they came from a Disco II you've got no problems as it has the same spec as the P38, but I suspect if they don't centre accurately they probably came from an L322 RR / D3. Buy a set of spigot rings (loads available on eBay) and it will centre the wheel properly on the hub.

There are loads of threads on the p38 and its sensitivity to tyres other than Pirellis - a few people have good experiences with other tyres and wheel sizes over 18", but overall the P38 seems to prefer 18" wheels with Pirellis, profile 55 not wider as this messes up the speedo readings and different tyres / wheels can cause severe tramlining. Wheels from L322s and Disco 3 need new nuts and spigot rings to fit. Tyre pressure and wheel balancing is also an issue, and has to be accurate as the tolerances in the P38 for these issues seem to be quite narrow. Changing the wheels around from front to back can also make a huge difference either way due to the low tolerance factor for balance and tyre pressure. I know it seems stupid but after 5+ years of owning a P38 I know these issues make a massive difference to the handling of the P38 where they may make little difference to many other other cars.

They are sensitive souls these P38s. Gental giants if you will. you should try running 22's with 15" profile. they dont like that one bit i fight with the wheel on the country roads...any roads for that matter!lol
