hi all, just a quick question, im looking at getting a tow bar sorted out for my p38 but im wondering about the electrics for the trailor, is there a plug in the boot which you simply plug in the loom for the trailor electric socket? perhaps behind the covers for the rear lights? there was a tow bar fitted before i bought it but someone removed it  probably because it was the swan neck!

Thanks.

right ive just had a look and have found the connector in the right hand side compartment but the harness is missing from the left hand side, cheeky bastards must have taken it when they took the swan neck!!!! does anyone know the part number for the wiring harness?

I got my towbar electrics from a chap on ebay who has them made for him. Dirt cheap and excellent quality. pm me if you want details.

If you can buy all at once though I'd go for it.

thankyou all for your input about this, i need to get underneath the rangey as i have a feeling that the previous owner only took the electrical harness, the swan neck and the bracket it fits into, but i only had a quick look and there is quite a few holes drilled into the bar(maybe a different type towbar has been fitted). i will get right underneath and investigate properly then i might take your offer up rob. Thanks again people your advice is invaluable!

Hi all, just a question,
I'm looking at getting a tow bar sorted out for my 97' Range Rover but I'm wondering about the suspension levelling sistem, is it possible to have problems because of towing a boat carrier or anything else? I heard that there were problems with SLS after towing and to eliminate this issue a new suspension software is needed to be loaded.

No. The EAS will just work normally - it's designed to cope with towing so will level the vehicle even with a trailer attached. Another reason not to convert to coil springs.

You can manually raise and lower it to make hitching up / adjust the towing height too.

Never heard of any new suspension software being available.

LR recomend that the EAS is locked with the button on the dash to prevent the suspension from lowering at 50+mph when towing:D

The tow bar electrics on my P38 are connected behind the drivers side rear light access panel. There is a plug which connects to the main loom, from which there are 7 wires which have been joined to the after market loom to the plug. Hope this helps. Job looks really simple to do. If you need a wiring diagram then give me a shout. :)
