Hi,i was wondering if there was anything in the 4x4 market i could buy to reduce the amount of water throwen up on the windscreen when going threw puddles , ok during the day , but night time driving with on coming cars on B roads is a bit heart thumping or has anyone done a d.i.y with any success, thanks.

dont drive through them as fast then.;);)

I dunno, just as a bit of a left field suggestion, why not try turning on the windscreen wipers?

It's just something that the P38 does. Or any big square lump, for that matter, when you drop it in water! It'll be just as bad -or worse - for the oncoming cars when the tsunami you cause hits them too.

why would you want to stop it?

trick is winda wipers on full wollop, drive as fast as you can and just before impact get a mental picture of the road and any obstacles and close yer eyes, i dont close mine cos its fun to see the tidal wave!!!

you could fit one of those spinnin windas ships have!

I've found a kindred spirit!:crazy_driver:

Just about all real 4x4's do it (not sure about softroaders though). It put the heart crossways in me the first time it happened driving 15 years ago in a Disco.
I think its to do with high ground clearance/no wheel arch in front of wheel. P38 is one of the best in the sense that you have a (multi) flick up and on down so when you go for the wiper stalk in panic you'll always get something of a wipe.

I often thought of doing something like black brush bristles but never got round to it, I just drive aware as much as possible.
I know what you mean about it being tough in the dark though.

Agree, but try "aqua planning" a P38.....I have....and thats scary.

i doubt a p38 can float in any circumstances!!! :D:D:D:D:D

They can but not for long, I was travelling up to Alston via Barnard Castle a few months ago (I had never used the road before) close to Alston, over the moors and it was persisting down to say the very least. The road had rivers running over it, one was slightly deeper than the rest.......lost sight of the road totally, the motor slowed, the engine revs climbed and the steering went incredibly light.

Never got mine to do that! half-decent treads and sheer weight seem to do the trick OK. Sure a good bit of water pressure appears to lift the body a touch but never lost contact with road, always sure footed, even for long stretches across some of Irelands bog roads.

Tyre tread wasn't a problem (5/6 mm approx) more to do with 75 mph and 6 inches of water for about 50 yds, I did slow down after that quite a bit. As soon as it happened I expected the engine to waterlock or at least loose some electrical circuits, I couldn't see the end of the bonnett or the side of the road just a huge amount of water.......

With all the rain we have been having i was having the same problem.

But then i had a good long thought about it (all of about 3 seconds) an decided to go with it! Slash the stupid walkers! soak the cyclists! Scare the horses!(who sh*t on out roads get our clean cars covered in sh*t, slow us all down an jus generally **** us all off!) and as an added bonus, it scares the **** out the missus!LOL:D
