Well it passed, which is good news but the following were the advisories:

Offside rear brake pipe slightly corroded
Centre seat belt stalk cover missing (piece of plastic that covers the catch)
1x high level stop light inoperative (one of the bulbs must have gone in the high level brake light)
Brake fluid low (checked this after and it's on Max???)
2x front pas pipes corroded
Various oil leaks (although has never leaked onto my drive and I thought they all did this from the factory? :) )
O/s and n/s rear air bags perishing

Brake pipes and air bags next on the to do list then :)

If they are perished enough to get an advisory they are almost certainly leaking:)

I will do them at some point (when I get the time). To be honest the car is just a second Sunday fun car bought as a hobby so I don't use it much.

Edited to add - I'll do the spray on soapy water test this weekend to see if they are.

Cheers. Looking at the DIY guide they look quite straightforward to fit.

PM me with an email address and I will send you my guide which is in the how too section above.
If yours have alloy end caps they can be a barsteward to get out. Order new retaining pins as you may have to cut the old ones to get them out.
If they come out easily, 20 minutes per bag:)

PM sent :)

Do you reckon that putting some waxoil on the pas and brake pipes is a good idea? Or maybe copper grease?

Yea won't do harm I have noticed they seem to mention leaks nowadays , nothing a steam cleaner won't sort out for next time.breakers for your bit of plastic as datatek said defo air bags brake pipe you done well lucky :) and I think the brake light must not lose more that 25% of its bulbs

Waxoil is better than copper grease as it kills the rust. Plan to do the whole underside of mine in the next couple of weeks:)

I'll add waxoil to the to do list :)

Ordered a couple of new Dunlop air bags today so should be with me by the weekend. Will hopefully get a chance to fit them Sunday (doing o rings on Saturday).

I've noticed that the car doesn't drop, even when left for a couple of weeks. I presume that means the current air bags aren't leaking (yet) ?

I'm afraid not, the leaks open and close where the bags fold under as the height changes.

50% of light sources must work. If an high level brake lamp does not work at all and the presenter says it is not connected. The benefit of doubt must be given and a pass issued.

Do you mind if I ask about Waxoil: Can it cause rust to form between it and the metal by trapping moisture in? I only ask because years ago I bought an Isuzu Trooper that was in immaculate condition, and waxoiled. Passed an inspection. 2 years later, failed MOT as the chassis was too rusted and was going to cost more than the car was worth to weld.

Maybe the waxoil was put on to hide the rust or maybe it helped cause it. Either way, it put me off buying a waxoiled car.

I did use it for launching my boat so it would regularly get wet.

Thoughts?

If it is sprayed over flaky rust it is as useful as tits on a Mars bar. All loose has to be removed then treated then Waxoil sprayed on. Waxoil will neutralise surface rust but it won't work miracles.

Was it imported 2nd hand from Japan? I recall reading somewhere that there is no undersealing used in Japan because the roads aren't salted. They need to be undersealed before the types ever touch a UK road. Otherwise it is nigh on impossible to do effectively.

Wonder if any ex-RAF types will chip in with the wonders of pig urine?
