HI again
Same problem new thread
After having a chat with a senior member I've been advised to give a bit more detail, so here goes
This is a 4.0 petrol and it cranks over but does not fire. Local mech said the code he picked up said imobiliser but his equipment could'nt fix it. No message about it being imobilised on dash.
Senior member believes if it were the imobiliser it would'nt show ignition lights or crank over and it might be an ignition fault.
Is there anyone local to Barnsley with the "gems" module who can help.
I do'nt expect a free service just please get me moving.

This is a common problem, so much so that our friends over at Blackbox Solutions have devised a device to fix it. The engine ECU has lost the code stored in the BECM and although it will let it crank over, it wont fire the engine. You need a re-sync. Some enterprising chap on here is hiring out his Sync Mate that will fix it, do a search for just that.

Your original post is confusing, you dont state if the car is a Gems or Bosch equipped car. This is important,if your car is Gems and cranks with the key then there is no "synch" problem. If its a later Bosch car and cranks but does not fire there is a strong chance it DOES need a resynch.

there is a member who may be able to help, i will be contacting him shortly, i will try and see if he can help. hopefully!!

pm me your postcode and i can work out where you are!

This is a 2001 motor. Please ignore my ignorance but how do I tell if it is a Gems or Bosch equipped car.
If its 2001 you just need to to try a resynch,Gems went from 95 to the end of 98,Bosch took over from 99 and went to 2002.The top of your engine will look vaguely like a bunch of bananas, the earlier Gems engines had an oblong plenum chamber with 4.0 or 4.6 on it.
If the resynch makes your car run and all the wiring between the fusebox and BECM check out OK,then swopping out the RF receiver for the latest part # YWY500170, (Approx £150) will go a long way to stopping it happening again.
