Hey everyone about to change the front indicators and rear lights for clear lenses rather than the orange fitted to update it a bit ON MY 96 P38 4.6.

Is it easy enough or are there things to look out for?

cheers
steve

easy enough. certain bulbs don't match though. best you put in a fresh set as also the orange coating tends to peel off.

Lenses easy enough to remove, but as Rasheed says, get the correct orange bulbs. Officially, the 21 watt orange coated bulbs have offest retaining pins, the clear ones are 180 degrees inline. If you're reusing the original bulb holders then you'll need orange bulbs with inline pins. Other than that, easy peesie.

Don't think so, only bulbs with offset pins are twin filament, Eg stop and tail bulbs. All single filament bulbs have inline pins.

Bit harsh, some people are, look at my name for instance, but I don't like to be reminded of the fact!!! :D

I'm guessing that when the orange coated bulbs came out to fit the then newly arriving clear lenses (probably 20 years ago now), manufacturers came out with a way to prevent clear bulbs being used with clear lenses. Of course things being as they are, there was a call for orange bulbs with straight pins, though I don't think you can get a clear bulb with offset pins, but could be wrong......... :scratching_chin:

Yeah that seems reasonable explination. But to be honest i have never seen one. All orange bulbs i have changed, and it's been a lot, have had normal pins. What makes of vehicle are these fitted to?

Dunno really, just that whenever I have needed to change an orange bulb, the one I have in the workshop stock is always the wrong one. I seem to sort of remember it may have been on VWs.......

Probably thought up by some designer who thought everybody was as dumb as is was.
