Hi
Just had me RR v8 4litre 2000 on diagnostics garage has said it needs front crash sensor replacing cost enough for diagnostic so thought i would change them myself found 2 on net which are on the way Problem i got is i cant find them on car seen a post about behind front headlights i know there are yellow beyond that i am stuck Any help please

Cheers

They are located indeed behind the front headlamps...

get hold of the RAVE manuals (do a search on here for them) they will detail all you need to know.

If the SRS ECU has had a crash signal, you will need to replace the ECU also.

Also disconnect the battery first!

Crash sensors rarely fail and they are different according to year I believe. The are on top of the chassis legs under the headlights.
As Saint.V8 said, if the SRS ECU has fired an airbag, it will have to be replaced.

I meant i Broke everything around it whilst trying to fit it, including my finger. I had the guidance of a 4x4 mechanic that day, he just stood back and laughed as I struggled!!
I do less repairs on my own cars these days even though I work in a garage. I never seem to have the same patience with my own :D

the sensor was picked up on diag machine looked all around headlight and chssis ends no sign of them does headlight have to come out surly a yellow relay cant be this hard to find also checked inside car still no sign of them

It's not a relay, it's a yellow box when new but gets covered in crap and blends in nicely.
Take the headlight out, you can't miss it if it's there.

For near side one, open bonnet and look on a line from EAS drier to rear of headlamp. It is bolted on immediately behind headlamp. Other one can't be seen because of battery box.

Update just taken headlights out not there also i have noticed there is no yellow wires around front at all anyone found these any where else rave is not helping either :(

Did they all have front crash sensors?

I know there were two different SRS types single detection or double detection (i think that is what they were called)

But if the ECU is reporting an issue with the front sensors, and there are none fitted, it could be possible Datatek is right, it has had a prong.

A couple of photo's for you.

Under battery compartment.

Nearside, you can just see the sensor and the cable covered in crap.

Taking the bumper off will not help see photo's above. It won't be a bad earth, a corroded connector maybe.

Thanks for them just had another look on car defo never had anything fitted in that area its all clean screw holes still have orig paint in them dont need to take bumper off can see all round it from underneath this is defo driving me mad lol

The photo's are off my 96 scrapper so it's an early car, they are, I think, in the same place on my year 2000 car.
I can check if it would help.

We live and learn, no sensors there on my 2000 either:confused:
No idea where the feck they are:(
Just checked RAVE and it implies that there are 2 systems, distributed which has 2 front external sensors and single point where the sensor is internal to the SRS ECU. would seem like the later cars have the cheaper single point system so your fault will be internal to the SRS ECU.
