P38 Engine Clean...?

Hi,

As you can see, my engine is VERY dirty with thick Salisbury Plain mud coating lots of it.

Is it safe just to hose it down (obviously avoiding the fuse box and other electrical bits)? Any other bits I should try and avoid getting wet?

It seems very strange that most of the deposits are on the top of the engine! How'd that happen?

looks like the fan has blasted it everywhere. best option is a hot pressure wash, then allow time to dry. Prob yu have is electrics.

or a bucket of water and a brush.

Only use a hose, not a pressure washer on the radiator. |Salisbury mud sets like concrete - the sooner yu can get it off , the better.

Oh dear, it's been on there a couple of months now! Getting cheesed off getting filthy whenever I do anything under the bonnet so it has to go. Dried mud dropping everywhere is not conducive to topping up with oil etc!

I'll see how I go...

Well that was an anti climax - I was expecting all sorts of problems, but got most of the muck of it with hot water and a sponge - sprayed it with the hose and no probs at all.

Clean(ish) now.

have done mine several times with a steam cleaner { hot water but pressure turned down low } and had no problems
the hot water dissolves the ****e and rinses it off also because the hot water warms everything up it will dry really quick

The local car wash near me does "engine washes" can't imagine there'd be too many problems otherwise they would be out of business!
