P38 electric head restraint u/s

Hi folks,

The drivers head restraint in my car is at the lowest position - pressing the "up" control has no effect - neither does cycling through up and down.

I can hear a whirring sound though - so electric motor must be OK. What could have happened and can anyone advise how to restore normal operation ?

can you pull on the head rest as you press the button, it may have gone below its bottom stop

i bet the drive cables fooked, my old p38 did the same thing. take the seat out a strip it into two sections, take the leather off and you will see the cable. the only thing to do is buy a new cable to get it working again.

Both of mine are like this. I was going to investigate when I do the heater elements.

I take it this cable isn't repairable in any way?

Does the whole seat cover need to come off or will the back come off on it's own?

Tbh I never use the adjustment but I hate things not working so it's on my snag list...
