Hi all, newbie here! In a bid to establish some slight credibility, I have owned a number of Land Rovers from Series 1's through to 90's. I've also had a couple of 300Tdi Discovery's and an 89 RR Classic. Disco's were road cars abut all others were off road toys.

My post here is about an R Reg DSE that has been sitting in someone's drive for some time, looking a bit unloved. It seems to drive as it's moved position but it is sagged on its suspension and now has a flat.

I am feeling the need to try and buy it as have no Land Rover at the moment and would like to scratch the itch. The problem is I know very little about the more modern and complex products. Mine were all simple and DIY-able.

I'd like any thoughts on whether the suspension could be a compressor failure and what would be the other main points to look out for. Assuming no MOT, what might this be worth as a runner? It looks very original apart from BFG AT's. Dark Green met so decent colour and it looks straight enough.

With MOT and assuming good condition and no major faults, it seems it could be worth about £2500 - is this fair?

Should I leave alone or offer £500?

Any thoughts welcomed please?

Thanks
Adam

If the suspension doesn't come up sharpish, then you will be into airbags and compressors. All pretty easy and not that expensive. Check for overheating and do a searhc for info on blend motors. £1500 max unless it's perfect.

Why don't you do it in reverse?

Assume it's got one or more of the common major faults, suspension bags, compressor, head, blend motors, etc. Add in a few more quid just to be safe, price it all up and then subtract that from what you think the car might be worth.

and then see if the owner will pay you a grand or so to take it away!

Thanks for the replies.

I'll research the Blend motor isssue a little more, although early diagnosis appears possible from a dash display?

Is the suspension compressor and airbag a suitable DIY job. I'm OK-ish with the spanners and have a big garage to keep it in. any idea as to cost of the parts, assuming all bags/compressor have failed?

Thanks

Comp and bags fairly easy - Datatek did a great write-up on bags in here! Look at Island 4x4 for better idea in costs.

oh, and Welcome to the assylum!

Like tyres, air suspension bags wear out, 80K miles 8 years max and they will be leaking. Fairly easy to do, as is a compressor overhaul. You will need the free EAS software and a custom OBD cable to work on the EAS:)

To be honest if its been sat dust gathering for a while, you could be walking into a very expensive purchase

Just out of curiosity whereabouts in the uk are you, i'm in manchester, I've decided to maybe put mine up for sale, due to work problems, its a 2.5 dse

Recently had new air bags fitted to front suspension and a new radiator, also its had a full engine rebuild around 40k ago, its currently has 193K on it and runs like a dream

Ive only had it since feb and quite reluctantly may have to sell it, its taxed till jan 12 and mot'd till august, heres a pic, as you'll notice it has a private reg with it too, i think sets the car off
