I'm in the middle of changing the above along with pipes and came across this (picture somewhere on thread) on the side of the cooler after removing it. The screws holding on where fubarred so drill them out but my question is what is it because it's just screwed to the side of cooler and doesn't plug into anything it's just sat there.

I could only assume a temp sensor of some description....

Right must be the transmission oil temp sensor and must just register heat of the side of the cooler. Funny that it never mentions it in RAVE, but you live and learn. Better reconnect it with a new one then eh. cheers Saint:)

Maybe it is not a cooler from a Range Rover....but from another vehicle....it just happened to fit..!!!!

Looking at it I'd say its the original cooler, but i had to cut wires to get it out because the screws where knackered and couldn't drill it insitu.

Dm what size BF tyres do you have on those 18" in your profile pic?

did you have them colour coded as aftermarket?

It is indeed the transmission oil temp sensor. Not shown in RAVE for diesel but is shown for V8 transmission cooler.

They are 265/65/18 BFG ATs, well spotted cos most people have 16's. Had to remove mud-flaps and alter motorway height on Faultmate, and by the way access height is a big no no. Other than that no problems with rubbing or lock. With regard to wheels they are genuine L322's powder coated to the colour i wanted with polished outer rim.

Cheers wammers for the definitive answer and i didn't find it in Rave cos i never look a the petrol part.

Sorry to hijack your thread mate.

Not a common size, I have the same size Bridgestones on exactly the same l322 wheels but the less aggressive tread gives me no problems with access height. Its a nice look on yours - nice one.

Right, all done and dusted, but a warning to anyone doing this job in the future, a new transmission heat sensor is £48(land rover really doesn't have a sense of humour) and you have to have one otherwise you get a message on dash centre. So needless to say i fixed mine and everything ok.

Hi,

did your new cooler have threads for the sensor screws ?
My Britpart replacement doesn’t abs I’m nervous to attack it with a drill !

Cheers

Bob
