Apart from the genuine ones anyone any advice on fitting a cupholder in a p38?

I've tried a few ****ty ones from fleabay and dont get on with mounting positions (vents, dash, inside the centre console). I've seen one on the aformentioned site that mounts into the coin tray next to the clock and wondered if anyones tried this one?

I refuse to pay the ridiculous asking prices people sell the the genuine ones for, and to be honest don't think they're that practical. If any1 has fabricated their own to some success let me know? I've had ago briefly but to no avail. It seems there just isnt anywhere neat and tidy to put one in these.

I've heard that the one that mounts into the coin tray rubs on the dash, especially back news if you've got walnut.

For my passenger I got a holder from the back of a Merc E class estate (my last car so I knew about them) and fitted it on the side of the tunnel at about kneee height. It folds up when not in use but is big enough to hold one of those square water bottles. I still haven't come up with an idea for me so I'm still contorting to use the one on top of the cubby box.

Brilliant just the info i was after, will give something like that a try. I think down to the scrappy this week to see what other vehicles have to offer.

I'd concentrate on people carriers or seven seater estates, any sort of car that would need the holders to fold for people to get in and out or where the seats fold.
I have seen some fold-up holders in Halfords but (what a shock) they were flimsy plastic with 'chromed' bits. Not nice.

I've just had a nose on fleabay and there's a Merc one like I got for ONLY £25 (I paid £5 from a Merc breaker) and another very similar from the states for about £10.

Ok will do thanks

I put cup holders in mine (genuine ones) like you I wasn't prepared to pay the silly £££ they are asking, then one day a whole consul came up with the cup holders in it, it was the wrong colour, but I just took them out threw the consul away, and put grey leather on the lid, cost all in was about £30..... but your right they are useless bad design, I have seen a lot better on cheap cars, and vans too, and trucks even!!

i have seen a cup holder fitted to a p 38 inside the door on the piece of wood trim under the heater vent he removed the trim cut away behind it fitted the cup holder off a volkswagen and faced it with the trim . to look at it you would never imagine what was done just press the trim and out pops the cup holder
