Has anyone changed one of these ?
Do you need to remove the whole gear lever assembly and take the cable out through the cab. Or can you pull the cable from underneath and replace easily ?
It's always easier if someone else had already done it

Thanks.... Changed cable what a saga that was just have to wait for a second person to sit in the car tomorrow so I can adjust the cable and fingers crossed my select neutral fault will be sorted

Tax did it get slack so it was out of sync so to speak ?? Of to tight that it wouldn't go into 1st

No had the select neutral message and I noticed that when you put it in park it wouldn't start but if you moved gear stick just a little it would fire up ok. I disconnected cable at gearbox selector end and got wife to move through the gears without cable attached. Then when she put it back in park I noticed barrel at end do cable didn't line up with hole in selector arm. It needed adjusting but was totally seized to the thread, tried wd40 tried heat no go. So had to swap out for another cable.

Tax,

let us know if it works, I have had "select neutral" up for a while, changed the transfer box module today (having read EVERY thread on here re the fault), it did not work! no idea what to try next so if your cable change works I will try that.

Think he had a different problem than that. He has changed the cable but problem was more than likely clogged XYZ switch not making good contact. Select neutral is shown when you try to engage a gear whilst the transfer box is cycling. Maybe you need to look at shift solenoid. Under centre consul on left side of gear lever.

No, no, no didn't work.....I did buy this rangie as a project LOL...changed cable still select neutral..

I have 3 issues with this car that I need t solve... Select neutral...
When in high range whatever gear I select lights up red led. However the number 3 is flashing green.....also when I select neutral and try and go to low range the following happens....I select neutral and N appears on dash I sled it over to low range and all the orange lights glow on low side and L appears on dash...as soon as I select any gear in low, it comes up saying high range on dash,....the other thing to point out is that when I try moving from high to low you are meant to get a symbol luminate on dash for a few seconds...I do not get this... So now I'm thinking either XYZ switch or/and transfer motor..
...
...just to cap it all off think the starter motor gone now, I turn the engine just get a click at the starter, after several attempts it fires up, and again then maybe another ten attempts before it does....
Pick the bones out of that lot

I'd head for the switch. It's the only part that affects everything you've mentioned. Having said that you can power the motor directly and see if it's moving.

As for your starting I'd suspect a bad connection or poor earth. Try connecting a jump lead from the negative of the battery to a good connection on the engine. If it then fires up you've got an earthing issue. If not it's a feed issue.

Sorry missed the select neutral bit. The XYZ switch could be the reason you had to wiggle stick to start. But the select neutral problem will be the switch at the side of the gear lever more than likely. Or a combination of the two.

Think I'd be looking at the transfer box ECU.
For the starter motor check the relay and under bonnet fuse box for signs/smells of burning and the power cable to the fuse box.
