Hello all. just joined the forum and need advice. i have a 4.6 p38. the gearbox is not right. when the car is stationary and you select drive nothing happens just loads of revs i need to select 1st to pull away then into drive to use the auto box as normal. but once stoped i need to go into back into 1st ect... kind of like a semi auto. could this be the auto clutch ? or maybe the ecu.. any advise please

Bad electrical connections making the gearbox ECU think it is in manual/low range mode:confused::confused::confused:
Does it only pull away in 1st? not 3rd or 2nd?

spoke to ashcroft today, they reckon the best way is replace the gear box. £650 supply plus fitting plus vat ££££££s. thanks for input guys

As Gav says, check fluid first. Then hook up to a Testbook (or Rovacom or something) and see if it throws up any error codes (could be a neutral sensor or any of a host of other connection / sensor issues). If its not that either and its something mechanical you'll be buying a new box mate. Sorry.

i found the best place price wise was hi-range ltd..
they dont rip you off on the fitting and as they deal in the said cars know them inside out ;)

£700.00 full recon box inc new torque conv and 12 month warranty
£200.00 + VAT for fitting...lot cheaper than ashcroft are asking as i gave them a bell and nearly fell off the chair lol 1 of the dearest imho and there only offering the same as any other place...
