i have an issue with the auto box on my 2000 p38, it knocks into gear mainly down shifting from 2nd to 1st when stopping / pulling up it is worse when the car is warmer, i am thinking a gearbox oil service wouldnt hurt so have ordered a service kit of ebay how easy is this to do? also how much and what oild do people reccomend? how long should this take and how can i check my levels as my model does not have dipstick in engine.

any help very very much appreciated.

box not changing as it should, taking to long to change etc,its a piece of p*ss to do,it will explain itself when you get the beast up in the air, just make a note of where everything goes.:)

put the car in extended height, drain the oil out of the box, remove the 15mm bolt from the gearbox crossmember the one next to the gearbox sump, remove the 6 clamps 10mm bolts and remove the sump, remove the 3 torx bolts holding the filter in place, refit new filter in reverse making sure you use new o rings, fit new sump gasket and refit the sump and the 15mm bolt to the crossmember, make sure the drain plug is refitted and remove the refill plug on the front of the gearbox sump, refill the gearbox using atf dextron 3 or equivelent, untill fluid runs out of the fill hole, start engine and go through all the gears, with the engine at idle continue to refill the gearbox untill a fine thread of oil starts to run out of the fill hole then refit the plug. job done
make sure you have a set of allan keys and a torx set before doing any work
