Been offered a 2003 HSE Td6 cheap.Drives fine but suspension inactive. Its done 175k.Should l give up my thor Vogue 4.6 lpg 169k for this? Are they better than p38s

TD6 is a good strong engine. not for racing about, but they shift when needed :p

why would you want a P38 over an L322 Lol

air suspension inactive should be an easy fix, lots of info on the subject.
You'll need your own diagnostics kit either way if you want to run this car on some kind of budget !

Iv loved my p38 but it is a bit dated now and not yet old enough to be a classic.
I can get my hands on a snapon does it work on the l322? Works well on the p38 and just about anything else but have not tried it on a l332

Yep,

Heard of some members that have used the snapon

You will probably be limited to reading and clearing faults, not sure if you'll be able to calibrate the air suspension system which is quite an important process

L322 will give you more problems and the problems are more difficult to fix, engine is better then your V8 though.
Trim is poor, paint wears of plastic seat bases etc, leather is poor and the seats hard, personally I wouldn't want a V8 P38 or an L322 or any type.

I know issues with p38s are they similar to l322 issues. Im not a mechanic but l run a restoration garage and have tools and guys who have looked after the p38 well. What issues should l be looking out for besides the dreaded gearbox n suspension?

Having done this the other way round, i'd sooner stick with my P38.:)
Yes mine is my dream car too and puts a smile on my face even when its idling:eek:.But l feel l av scratched that itch now and need to move on.l just dont want to regret it as the p38 has been good to me though.lt even does the D1 garage work towing cars about:eek:

I went through 8 years of company cars so had diesels. Not that i'm knocking diesel but the novelty of a big V8 did appeal to me & as long in the tooth as the Rover V8 is i still think it's a great engine & is what the RR should have under the bonnet - never driven a later TDV8 so cant comment. The TD6 L322 was ok but it didn't inspire me....maybe that's partly company car mentality though.

That v8 sound is so addictive. I love my interior too, though its a bit dated. The mrs and l always find ourselves in the p38 and its not helping the mileage.
It was meant to be a weekend toy but now its an everyday car much to my annoyance. I get nervous each time she takes it out with the sprogs . That has diluted my enjoyment.

Sometimes better the devil you know!
All RR's will go wrong. As keith says, P38 cheaper to fix.
I wouldnt personally touch a 322 with that sort of.mileage on, too many IMO.
The air susp could be just cheap fix, however, it may not be...

Parts are a lot more for the l322 generally. Done a quick search of a few items for comparison and the difference on some bits is huge

1 wouldn't usually touch one but for £4000 l thought its cheap enough with 8 months MOT.l actually had the car over the weekend and l was surprised by how it still drives. I think I can knock another couple of hundred pounds off it.

Water ingress to N/S rear quarter destroying the radio/nav electronics, ABS ECU, HID ECU's/igniters, complex EAS problems, steering column movement failure, EAS pump and plastic valve block on chassis very complex to diagnose, see the posts by rs2000 custom, gearbox made of French cheese, suspension bushes also made of cheese, the list goes on and on. suffice it to say, they now seem to be less reliable than any P38 and very much more complex and expensive to fix.
