Hi!
As a fresh owner, I'm trying to check that everything is as it should be with my new "friend".
When I changed the engine oil and filter, I also pulled the other dip-stick under the bonnet. I guess this is the transmission fluid level. The dip-stick has two holes drilled in it, and my guess is that the fluid level should be somewhere between the two. Mine is way higher. Is this bad? Do I need to drain some fluid? The transmission seems to be working perfectly, and the fluid is a clean pink colour.

Regards,
Henrik

Hi Keith,
Yeah, I noticed that there were more people posting on this forum, so I reckoned there'd be a better chance of getting some help over here. :)

So, having checked the ATF level as per procedure and found it's about 2 inches (!) above the top marker on the dip-stick - should I drain some fluid?

Regrds,
Henrik

That would represent about a pint and a half too much in box. If you need to extract it, an old largish coffee jar and some clear plastic pipe around 10-12mm dia does the trick. Drill two holes in lid a tight fit for tube. Push longer tube in to bottom of jar, other just into lid and seal with silicone if required. Put long tube down dipstick hole and suck on other, oil will be sucked into jar.

Brilliant - thanks a bunch! So you don't think the overfill has damaged the 'box in any way? It seems OK, but I'm new to these cars so what do I know..

Possibly not. But as mentioned by others make sure gearbox oil is cold when you check level. When hot it will be well up stick. Some vehicles have a dip stick with hot and cold levels on them. The hot level on these is several inches above the cold mark.
