Unfair contract terms legislation, unless it's changed since I left the UK, means a dealer cannot escape his liabilities by saying "Sold as Seen" that only works for a private seller. A recognised seller must sell a vehicle in a condition that is fit for purpose. Sounds just like the dealer that sold the crock of **** to Jay on another long running thread.

He got a cheque from the dealer, kept the car and is attempting to repair it He did post the result But no news as to whether he has a working car or not yet

Trust me Bertha I have won two cases this year against the garage I brought the car off and the credit card company, they rely on you not taking it any where.
Did you pay any on your credit card? If so there another angle there as long as you payed over a £100.

What if the headgasget was blown by me, not filling with water since I got it home? And the car was picked up from a garage but the eBay name is in the name of the garage owner?

you could ring trading standards and ask for some advice
I would say the garage is responsible not you
you should be able to drive a car you have just purchased without it having to be connected to your garden hose
sale of goods act and all that
if you are in the trade yourself well that's another matter
as has been said earlier no such thing as sold as seen from a garage

If the car was in good condition it should not have needed filling with water after 300 miles. Whether the garage owner sold it knowing it had a problem or not, he is responsible, if you have a receipt/invoice from the garage then it's a trader sale, he is liable.
