P38 2.5 DSE no more than 10mph after 2 mins driving

I have just bought an p38 2.5 DSE 2000 plate, I have just had a full Valet and new battery fitted, since I picked it up for the valet place it starts off fine, but after i drive for 2-3 mins its cuts out and won’t go above 10 mph, with no revs, does anyone have any ideas what this might be?
Any help would be brilliant as this is my first Land Rover and I am a bit clueless.

Do you get any warning lights, does it stall. Need more info really.

In the valet was anything steam cleaned, like the engine bay or carpets??

Sounds a bit like my fuel shut off solenoid got stuck and I couldn't drive above 40ish - I had the injector warning light on for that though.

If the interior or engine bay was steam cleaned, you could have a big problem. Other wise check the air filter, fuel filter and in tank fuel pump. Or throw it back at valeters if it worked before they had it.
 
The interior might have been steamed cleaned, the engine bay wasn't. I didn't see any lights or warning messages i will have another look after work and report. valeters don't want to know, im gonna call them back and get exact details of what they did.

Good luck. The valeters can't just walk away if they have damaged it.

You haven't managed to set the speed limiter by any chance?

Button on the end of left hand lever.
 
The car doesn't stall it moves very slow and the rev counter stops working. How do I check the filters? No lights come on when it happens, just same. It gives v little revs, thoughts?
 
Just started her to see if it was the limiter it wasn't, but after I drove a couple of hundred meter there was some steam and a strong smell coming from or next to what I believe to be the power steering reservoir I will post some pics

Right it was completely out of coolant I have now filled it an it worked fine for a while, now the coolant is bubbling and it does the same as before it's defiantly something to do with temperature I my opinion, any thoughts?
 
There may be an airlock. With the engine cold, take the top off the header tank, start the engine, squeeze & release vigerously the pipe to the rad by the power steering reservoir and keep topping up the header tank.
If that doesn't cure it, then it's viscous fan, thermostat, water pump and rad to check, but I'm afraid that with bubbles in the header tank it could also be a cracked head as it has been run without water.
 
All the coolant is still there, it was just boiling after 2 mile driving, how do I check all these things? Links would be good. I'm going to check in the morning
 
Q1, when you start it does it rev up all the way in neutral?
Q2, did you loose all/some coolant from it? If yes how much to top up?
Q3, does the temp gauge work? If yes does it go up to the red, or rise to half way and stop there?
Q4, Can you check the fan belt is there and the fan is turning? Keep fingers/hair/clothing well clear!!
Q5, if you take the top off the coolant reservoir (when cold!) is there a multi coloured oil sheen on top?
Q6, is the rev counter working now? Any other elec faults, even if they seem unrelated can be a clue.
If you`ve only recently bought it was it from a garage? Any garantee?

just checked the coolant and it was nearly empty from being full before, i have refilled and left engine running to see if i can see loss or where it goes (could it have been airlocked and then the filling of the water has just not got round?)

Temp gauge does not work and hasnt since ive had it two weeks

fan is turning, and seems ok

there is no multi coloured oil sheen in the coolant, this looks fine

the rev counter is working, only reason i think it might have not been is because it wasn't going fast enough show anything, the only issues is the back wiper does not spray water. There is no guarentee, it was bought off ebay (sold as seen) and from about 300 miles from where i live.

still not sure how to check the filters? how do i do this? any other things to check, and please can you make it as simple as possible, you people are brilliant !
