hi could anyone tell /help me my 2.5dse is breathing heavy returning 19 mpg on 1000 mile round trip to cornwall , I have obtained a rep engine from a simular age vehicle 98 reg but will it fit straight in or will there be a problem with the emobiliser, been told i will need alsorts of electrics from doner vehicle thanks in anticipation H. ps any info will be helpfull.

I would assume (and I could be wrong - usually am) that if it is a straight RR for RR engine....apart from the FIP setup, it should be a simple in/out job...

The problems come when it is a EGR engine or pre-EGR engine... that *may* raise issues.

Unless the engine is very high mileage, it might be better to find the reason for the low MPG. Have you checked things like the leak off pipes, the in tank pump or had the fault codes read?

:eek:hi there chaps & thanks for the reply, its the bmw engine in mine & the one i have obtained same as omega, but its out of a rr, not sure what fip setup is, iam told my engine has bore wash & it blows oil allover the master cyclinder area & when you remove the oil filler cap loads of preasure i know its a lot of work to change engines over but my plan is to do this & if its not perfect then to rebuild the original kind regards H. ps what do you think

hi just to add a note my rr has covered 117.00 miles not sure about the new one supposed to be good, had a blown transmission unit no oil leeks not able to check milage
what does egr or pre egr engine mean regards H

The earlier Diesels didn't have an EGR system and the later ones do...not sure when the change over was...98-99 i am guessing...but could be wrong.

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system introduces hot exhaust gases into the induction air to raise the intake air temp and has the effect of reducing the exhaust emmissions.

It was introduced to comply with the increasing demands from the EU to reduce exhaust emmission gases.

The two engines are mechanically the same except the EGR version has a valve mounted on the intake manifold which is piped into the exhaust system. The valve controls the amount of recirculated exhaust that enters the intake system according to various settings etc.

the ECU for the EGR and pre-EGR engines is different as the ECU has to 'know' about the EGR system as the fuel maps are different.

Sure it's not just a blocked breather? 117K miles is not a lot for one of these engines:confused:
The top of the FIP with the electronics is not the same on the Omega engine.

;)hi thanks everyone for your ideas & support not around this weekend so will check things on my return regards H. ps where is the breather located & how do i check it .

Egr and non egr are compatable, just replace all the manifolds from the original engine on to the replacement one.. Before you install the the replacement check all the sencors are are present save fannying around later. I fitted a BMW 525 series engine into my rangie after swapping all the relavant bits and bobs has run ok. The original engine (72000) had a split block on No1 cylinder. Also replaced Head as been ok this summer. Last month replaced the Auto box (76000)so now keeping it. There is a company in Rochdale (Simtec)? who will set up the 2.7v6 sport engine to fit the P38 but thats about6000. Hope it goes well Bazz.
