ok so here is what i have done, new glow plugs, inlet manifold fitted with new gaskets, new rocker cover gasket, replaced leak off pipes.
test drove and when turbo comes in it squeals like a pig,no loss of power, have i missed a connection, put the leak off pipes on wrong, what has happened?
don't have anything left over lol

Better locate exactly where the noise is coming from, if it`s from the turbo... well just hope it`s not..Or could it be a split hose leaking air on high pressure side of turbo? maybe tween turbo an intercooler or more likely tween intercooler and inlet manifold??

something is not well, cannot locate it but i think it could be a split pipe(wishful thinking)if it is the turbo then the truck could be spares only

so it is nothing i have done,it has just decided to destroy itself?

To be honest if you need to ask what you may have done, and it did not do it before you started work, then it is likely that you have done somthing wrong. Check everything you have removed and refitted.

maybe you spilled some oil on the drive belt changing the rocker cover gasket? that might make it squeal.

gone over all i have done, but have found nothing obvious,i am going to take the inlet manifold off and use gasket sealant just incase i have a leak to the head,if not then i am at the mercy of the garage.
i may be able to find a garage that will rebuild the turbo?

You could try rangeroverbreakers for a secondhand one:D

If it's air from a turbo pipe then disconnecting the pipe to the intercooler would elininate that. If it's still squealing then it's probably your turbo.

Try running it for a while with the pipe off. If you've spilled something then it should start to wear off, if it's the turbo you don't want the engine to swallow the bits if it gives way.

Surely you can at least tell which side of the engine it's coming from to decide if it's turbo or inlet manifold?

no need successfully located problem,it was a gasket on the inlet manifold that had failed, put another set of new ones on and happy days.
squeal has gone,i am pleased it was not the turbo.
even more pleased i fixed it myself again with help from the forum.
i know it may seem obvious i could of missed something, but with a p38 anything can happen, and usually does.
