My chum TAKdriver is about to adopt a P reg RR diesel auto with a not very happy engine that sort of goes in the huff at sixty-ish and cuts out.

Questions:

What engine is that likely to be?

What's wrong with it?

How do we fix it?

CharlesY

PS I haven't seen it yet.

its the same engine thats in the omega diesel too, helps if you need parts!

what kind of huff is it having, is there no power, does it splutter, have you tried the sport mode?

we really need more info on the symptoms i.e revs at time of huff???

Make sure the vacuum pipe (about 6mm OD) from the inlet manifold (outlet is underneath just back from the oil filter) to the manifold absolute pressure sensor (switch located on the fuel filter) is connected and not split anywhere. If it is the ECU assumes a default value which limits fuel delivery meaning it'll struggle pulling a load above 50mph.

Thanks! We will be checking that right smartish!

Fingers crossed that's it!

would a fault on the above pressure sensor cause running problems?, as when i changed my engine it snapped off,i glued it back on and since then it runs very lumpy and seems to lack power.

From my experience (it's worked it's way off a few times) - no. The main symptom is a kick-down when going up hill over 55mph.
