theres not all that much round there that i know of, theres some down didcot way, and then herts, cambs, and down surrey way

next time i go out i will let you know, im only down the m40 in beaconsfield so feel free to tag along

Cheers carpy. Want to go laning first before i go to a pay and play. Get some experience under my belt with other people and learn some things too.

Hammy I kinow its a bit of a trek but us Herts guys are always about doing somthing. Would suggest you do some laning to get the hang of driving and the use of difflock and low range. Alot of people still try and fail, to drive in high range open center difflock.

Playdays go with somone that has been before only try stuff you are confident to drive. The last thing you want to do is damage your mota on the first outing its easy to do at play days. I know a few of us Beds/Herts guys are planning some weekends away and we are not out as much as we are normally but feel free to PM anyone of us when you want to go out.

P.s. do you have front and rear recovery points? Do you have a recovery rope (not a strop)? If not we can reccomend some makes from experience a 6 meter or 8 meter nylon rope rated at 8 Tonnes is invaluable where as a slifting strop rated at even 30 Tonnes is pointless IMO and from previous experience.

Ask Ryder, We went to recover a stricken Landy from Fernaux Pelham, he didnt look too stuck so I first went for a strop and took up the slack and tried to pull it out. a couple of times. Absolutly usless. Attached my nylon rope and a few tugs saw them free. You cannot use strops for any kind of recovery that involves a run up by the towing vehicle. As its quite dangerous, possibly catastrophic and can cause serious injury to occupants of the vehicles if used incorrectly. Jai

You always have Bulford camp near Tidworth...
it's where the army does their training.. go on a Sunday as it's likely they wont be training, if they are, the flags will be up.

Buy a OS map and check the byways that run across, there's loads...go in.. and play!

Be responsible, don't go destroying the lanes. Go with somone else that has been laning for a while and somone that you trust to help you if you need it. Do not go alone! Make sure all the lanes are Legal and have vehicluar rights. I'm not the biggest big fan of the greenlane association (GLASS) but these simple steps above are no brainers. Don't go playing have fun and enjoy it. If you want to test you land rover or skill greenlaning is not the place for that. Pay and play or trials is. Alot of failed trials drivers take to "greenlaning" as a substitute as they either lack the skill or patience. Tearing up muddy tracks and axle deep ruts is not greenlaning its simply the fastest way to loose vehicuar rights to our legal byways. Jai

well i want to have a look around the lanes in and around didcot because they are just about the most local ones i have. will post up here when i decide to do so but feel free to come along

Theres **** all in oxfordshire boss. Carpy I've not actually been to look but I'd wager a fair amount that those ones in didcot have been TRO'd

I tend to go up to warwickshire, but these boys in herts are a good bet :)

yea i know or 3 that have been, but theres only one way to find out and thats have a look. i have been told theres a few that are half decent.

Fair enough. I know theres a couple up near me but the nearest ones are in northants & warwickshire. My landy is going next weekend so not really relevant for me to keep up with local lanes anymore lol.

I've had a look, but I can't see anywhere useful to put recovery points.

I have 2 "loops" on the back end of the rangey, probably tow-loops, but I myself wouldnt trust them.

I didnt know whether to get ropes or strops, but you said ropes, so ropes it is.

I am just starting out, so any and all information I can get is really useful, thanks guys.

Once i get my towing kit on, I was going to get one of these

But I'm still stumped as to the front end.

Also, I can't see a suitable location to put Jate rings on.

A single jate can be fixed to the os on a p38 but you might have to trim the valance a touch.ill see if i can find a piccy.....

cant help with a rangey mate, never really looked over the front end. you wanna rip off the front bumper and get you a nice off roading one though - will look the dogs bollocks! dont know if they do them for p 38s but would look awesome

its a jate ring with a shackel attached o think if the p38 bumper mounts the same as a disco 2 it will be fiddly but can be done Jai
