owned my 110 for 3days! broken already!!

i bought my 1st landrover on saturday 2nd may,its a 92 110 FFR ex-mod with a 2.5 n/a diesel.found it in a landrover magazine. rang the dealer up and went to see it. i'm in dorset and it was in nottingham.
i liked it so with my hard earned money i bought it.
it drove fine all the way home,all 180miles of it.
today monday morning on my way to work the car in front of me stopped suddenly,so did i.went to drive of and NOTHING! no drive in any gear.so i tried hi/lo gear,nothing!
clutch seems fine,a bit noisy in reverse but still no drive.
Got the AA out,the man says the transfer box has gone(whatever that means!).
6hrs later i got home(was only 7miles away!)i phoned the dealer in nottingham, he said take the 6 bolted panel of the transfer box and see if the centre drive shaft/spline turns when with the engine running and in gear(anygear).it moves slowly like a second hand on a watch!!!

so my question is; is it the gearbox(LT77) shaft,transfer(something 320) box or has the centre of my clutch plate disintegrated?
do i need to remove the gearbox anyway?

No you need to get the garage to recover it at their expense and repair the problem. or they need to agree to fund all necessary repairs at a local garage or alternatively they need to give you a full refund as they've sold you a vehicle which clearly is not fit for purpose

Welcome to landyzone :D
The only thing you need to do, is ring up the dealer you bought the motor from, and tell them that they need to pick it up and sort it out.
What ever they say to you...(all bull****)...you must not back down.
Stick by your guns, and make them take it back and get it sorted.
If they wont have any of that, tell them that you wont have any of it either, and that you are bringing the landy back to them, and you will be demanding your money back...in full!!

the dealer has offered to have it picked up and returned back to him and repair it! whether it be a new box or clutch! just waiting for him to return my phone call.

are landrovers really that unreliable? or is it just bad luck?
it looks like a good landrover, a newly re-conititioned engine,no oil leaks,no rust anywhere!
yeah slow,noisy, but thats what its all about? is it???

im not sayin mines never let me down cus ile curse it if i say that;)

look after them there look after you :D anything can brake tbh though thats why i like to do 99.9% of work myself so i know its actually been done;)

ye they may be slow, but every time i drive it its makes me grin:D

yep just bad luck i guess then,i mean i had a 68 mustang fastback 4yrs ago and that broke down on the way home just after i bought that! yeah it is 18yrs old(the 110).. i had heard good things and bad things about landrovers, but the only way to find out is to own one.which i do now...

my old c plate '86 ffr is doin well tis the 2.5 na, but they need lookin after, ther gerrin on now, i think it was just a bit of bad luck really hope he sorts it fer yers mate :)
 
First of all...wow..a dealer that (seems) to be pretty quick at sorting the problem!!

Now, yes they are slow and noisy...but they get the job done...and you will need to get to know basic mechanics as they always have a niggle somewhere...the 2.5n/a is a cracking motor though once you get used to it...should outlive the bodywork...

Welcome to the forum...now..UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ASK ''Whats the biggest tyres i can fit onto my landy''....you will be shot, even if you are ex forces...actually especially if you are ex forces!
 
Can I fit them big unimog ones, do I need to cut the arches.

If it makes you feel any better mine ate a gear and transfer box on the way home, 1.5k later, i'm not going to jinx it by saying she's fine, but you get my drift! Good luck!x
 
update on ex-mod 110!

the dealer is coming sunday to take it back to nottingham and replace whatever needs replacing at his cost!! good job to!! we'll see what happens.

er not ex-mod just drive one!!!(hopefully!)

update on ex-mod 110.well he fixed it for me free of charge.replaced the gearbox and the gear out of the transfer box that the gearbox shaft goes though. and when i enquired about a pair of 2nd hand front seats he had lying around he let me have them!!!
so all in all not a bad result,abit of agro to begin with but it turned out not too bad.
now its time to get to know it!!!!!!
