Been having a problem with overheating for about a year now and still not got to bottom of it.

Drive along fine suddenly aircon cuts out and temp guage climbs into the red zone. stop car, water boiling, overflow overpressurises, water everywhere. Cool down, refill with coolant, drives ok for ten minutes hen the same again.

Changed the eng temp sensor, worked ok for three days then back to same - has now been back to garage where they drained and flushed radiator, all hoses have been replaced, temp sensor changed again, overflow tank and filler cap replaced. block skimmed ok, water pump replaced and finally the viscous fan replaced. This was all done over the period of the last year. After the viscous fan was changed car was working fine for past 3 weeks now the overheating has started up again, exactly as it did before.

Any Ideas?? My bank manager is not a happy chappy let alone my wife...

Servicing was crried out by garage !!! so have assumed deaerated correctly. maybe should not assume !!

harvey_s, what vehicle are you talking about? What make, kind, year (or at least plate reg), engine, transmission, mileage?

What do you mean by "block skimmed ok"? All these parts you were mentioning were replaced in the attempt of curing the overheating problem or was it something else?

cipx2

Discovery 95 model 5 door, automatic transmission, 3.9 litre V8 engine, Chassis no SALLJGM4MVA713272 mileage 150000kms.

All parts replaced to try and cure fault. Block skimmed meant Engine top overhaul and cylinder head tested in machine shop.

Full list of replacements and work as follows:

initially started as intermittent overheat with Aircon cutting out, thermostat replaced, ok for a while then started acting up again.

Went to garage for overheat problem and service.

10000Kms service c/o
Engine Top Overhaul
Cylinder head testing machine shop
Replaced water pump and thermostat
replaced all hoses and gaskets
replaced coolant tank cap

All ok for short time, then problem started again.

back to garage - changed coolant cap again, again ok for short time then acting up again.

back to different garage now - flushed and drained the radiator and replaced the viscous fan.

All ok since July now, but has once again started to overheat.

yes.....

1) the housing not been cleared of rust and debris and the new pump not turning - or
2) the fan belt stretching after a week or so and not drivin the pump

ive had a new pump fail cos the impellor was not fitted correctly by the ****s at QH
