Decided to go for a drive in the rain (flash floods) yesterday eve and after accelerating out of a big puddle the revs got to about 3k rpm and then “bounced” and I had to lift off to get the gears to shift up (TD5 auto).

(Stupid Q) is that the turbo overboosting?! How can I check that properly?

I haven’t been out again yet to try and replicate it and have only had it happen once before when overtaking a cyclist on a road.

I know the car will Rev past 3k rpm but I don’t tend to drive it particularly hard normally….

maf is new (2 months) and genuine, map and iat are less than a year old and genuine, air filter is foam panel type (not K&N).

Wastegate can seize on the td5, you can work it manually whilst applying some freeing up oil down the shaft.
I fitted a forge waste gate about a month ago and haven’t had any issues since fitting. Thread count/length matched the original one and the lever on the turbo was nice and free moving when I changed them over

one last post and then I'll give up.
does anyone think this could actually be a gearbox prob rather than an engine prob?
ECU's etc being the last refuge of a witch!;):(

Have you checked the boost pressure? Iirc does not need to overboost by much to make the car sulk.

I’ll plug the nanocom in and see if I can replicate it this eve.
I did go for a drive recording the data after firing the Forge and the readings appeared ok but will check again

Hmm interesting thought. It could well be but how on earth I’d be able to pin point that I don’t know. No faults or other issues from the box that I’m aware of

Record an inputs fuelling log od SD card with nanocom from a drive as to catch the symptom then you'll see what's wrong... also overboost should let a fault code stored for that

Yes, will try to do that this evening and see if I can replicate the issue from Monday eve.

All replaced with silicone hoses around 12 months ago so I don’t believe so
Then if you didnt use spring loaded clamps double check how tight they are cos in 1 year "classic" clamps can get loose, i have the feeling that you'll be able to tighten the screw... happenned to me then i replaced them all with which i think are the proper ones, this type

Great suggestion. Will check the clamps this eve before I drive to record on the nanocom and find some clamps on eBay to replace as those look much better

@sierrafery I don’t suppose you remember the sizes of the clips you used do you?!

HP pump voltage is ok and nanocom “inputs fuelling” is attached
I couldn’t replicate the issue on the drive this eve which is annoying

No cos i removed the weak ones and i went with them in my hand to a store close to me which has all kind of stuff like this and bough similar size
open this https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/part/id/L5.L5F.L5F02.L5F02020/brand/land-rover/ and if you click on + you can see nr 6 and 8 are shown as 60 and 80mm and for the others if you google out the p/n you'll find the sizes too, for example nr 5 https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product....r_turbo_diesel___defender___discovery_1_and_2

yes, that data is ok, nothing wrong there

Thanks will take the existing clips off and measure the old fashioned way!
