Tried to get up the hill, got within 5 foot of the crest and fell back right the way down into the gulley on the right hand side. Rear cross-member is as bent as a 9-bob note, rear door fooked, and possibly need a new 15" eight spoke. Power steering has failed, brakes feel dodgy as does suspension.

Arse.

Big thanks to Jimmi (owns black V8 RRC reg. NDZ ****) for swapping the popped o/s/f wheel in the mud and rain - I owe you and your crew several beers.

oops, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck! Sorry to hear that mate, hope yer feels better soon!!! Tis a bit of a killer hill, speshly when yer gets it like it has been lately!

Jeeze, what did your rear end hit, I take it you came down backwards and it sort of landed on its arse?

You OK?

Neck and back are really sore - X-rays show no damage fortunately.

Unfortunately same cannot be said for Bustrucket - drove it back from Baldhu and due to it's inability to hold a straight line i've got to assume the chassis is twisted. The rear cross-member is bent, and the door is caved in from the initial impact (it landed on the spare wheel which itself is undamaged - the rear door took the brunt of the impact) - the rear end then bounced up allowing the front to drop into the gulley and pop the o/s/f tyre off the rim. The n/s hard top side has shifted back about quarter of an inch, the instrument pod fell out, the steering wheel is bent (presumably from how hard I was holding on to it), the power steering has failed although i'm not yet sure why.

The accident was totally my fault - my first attempt on the hill I ran out of grip half way up and slid back down with no problems - so I took a run up in 2nd/low range (without difflock), got within 5 foot of the crest, ran out of revs, tried to change to 1st and immediately rolled out of control. I would guess I was going about 25-30mph backwards when I hit the bottom.

Oddie - bulkhead was all welded up two weeks ago...... rear wiper motor fooked, not from impact, it never did work...... :D - all it needed for it's MoT was a patch on the exhaust, handbrake tightening, the new windscreen I had fitted and the n/s door inside handle adjusting. Now i'm guessing I need a new PAS rack or pipework, if the chassis is straight the rear crossmember either replacing or power-pushing out, new shock absorbers (the Pro-Comps appear ok but after the impact they've had i'd rather shell out £130 on a new set of four), new rear door, new 10x15" 8-spoke wheel, rear brakes looking at........

Being honest I suspect it's time to either sell it on or break it - the MoT expires tomorrow, and the car in total only owes me £550. I think boggle still has the turd for sale, and the 4 good Greenways on Bustrucket will go straight on...... :D

Been thinking about my options today regarding repairing/scrapping/selling Bustrucket. Do I:

1) Remove the rear door, tidy up as much as possible and sell as is on fleabay,

2) Find a space to break it - it has a freshly welded bulkhead, 5 good Greenway Macho MT's, some fairly good panels and good running gear,

3) Or remove the hard top, fit a truck cab, new suspension, repair the steering, etc?

If I go with options 1 or 2, I should easily make the £550 it owes me either as a complete vehicle or in parts, if I rebuild it i'm looking at investing a further £4-500 if the chassis is straight.

So far as I can see, to put it back on the road if the chassis is straight i'll need:
4 Pro-Comp ES9000 +2in Shocks (£121.96)
Truck Cab (£???)
Rear half Door (£???)
1x new 8x15 8-spoke (£32.90)
Steering repairs (faults unknown - price £???)
New exhaust system (£79.62)
Braking system repairs (faults unknown - price £???)
(prices from Paddock ad in LRO)

If the chassis isn't straight then it's another £650 for a galvanised one from ebay.

Obviously i'd like to put it back on the road, but i'm not sure it's economically worth it, especially as for the cost of repairs I can pick up an early 3-dr Disco instead. The chassis will the be the make-or-break I think, is there any simple checks I can do to see if the chassis is fooked?

Cheers :D

If its any use i have a 4 blot disco PAS box, available! Looks a nasty accdient, glad you are ok. I almost did the same as you when i met you lot in june, i got to the top and ran out of grip, but just jammed the brakes on and stalled it there and then.

Glad your neck is ok.

TO check the chassis i would run long straight things along it, like a long bit of wood, see if it has wobbles etc in it, or something simple like that.

I saw that and remember it well, it was a cracking recovery - we thought we were gonna see summat spectacular (of course not knowing then that it was you!!!)

Once i'm not feeling so sore i'll wander down to where Bustrucket has been parked and check all the damage - if the disco 'box will fit, I might just buy it off you. I'll let you know ;)

Cheers :)

Nodda problem bustrucket!

Yeah when i did that i was a bit worried, but my dad used to be an offroad driving trainer for the police, and he told me that when hill climbing or desending the worst thing to do is declutch, unfortunately i think this has been proved :(

If theres anything else i can help with just shout, i have a few odd disco bits from my donor disco, i also have NA engine spares, but i don't think you will need them currently, i have a couple of spare back doors, they ain't great but they are better than yours currently!

Jus give us a shout!
Boydy
