hi, maybe a silly question but i dont no so ill ask, are the original holes in the chassis (the little round ones) ok the weld over as all i can see is there let water in and eventally rot the chassis inside out, i thought if welded over it will stop intenal rot problems in the future, but maybe for condensation or something who nos, hope you can help, thanks all

In my opinion unless you could be absolutely sure it was in a humidity free environment then welding over the holes would invite more problems than it would solve, just wait till summer, wash the inside of the chassis out with a karcher or similar until the water runs clean then waxoil or similar in there good and proper, land rover kind of knew about chassis when they built the disco 1.

just my 2 zloties worth.

agreed, just keep pumping it full of waxoyle every year, if they werent meant to be there LR probably wouldnt have put them there, it would have just been more work in the factory for no reason. (unless there was a load of old box section with pre drilled holes lying about spare when they decided to make the chassis lol)

Landrover didnt make the chassis, they were supplied by Thompsons, GKN took them over a few years ago, holes are drain holes so dont weld em up just waxoyl as stated above

There are large and small holes in a D1 chassis from the factory and all have a purpose. The larger ones are for ventilation and the smaller ones for drainage.

Do as others have suggested hose out the inside of the chassis to get rid of débris then Waxoyl.
