Hi to everyone, I am new to this forum, although I use another forum quite often.

I am looking to resolve a problem that we have with our Freelander Serengiti, my husband thought we need new brake pads because they made a noise when breaking.
Today he took the wheel off and they looked fine,so he just brushed them over in case they had dirt/muck on them.
A couple of times we have noticed the orange landrover sign coming on, not all the time but now and again, can you tell me if the two are linked? I f not so you know what is wrong?

duuno what the light is but you could have a small stone caught in the brakes which will make a screeching noise. usually they get caught behind the back plate but i have seen them wedge in the pad area before .

If it looks like a freelander going down a hill (with an exclamation mark next to it) then it's the Hill Descent Control Failure light.

This can be caused by any number of reasons, but if the brakes overheat (or more accurately - the computer thinks they have!) then the light will come on.... if a sensor was knocked when changing the pads then this may have caused it.

Mine did this the other day, but it's still under warranty (phew!) so I'm giving it back to landy on Thursday for them to look at

Yes it is that light, that you described.

Perhaps it maybe a lose cable someone along the lines.

If yours is going in to Landrover James A, perhaps you will leave feed back what they said the problem was. Many thanks.

We think the brake noise is not linked with the light, the brake noise is less often now that my husband's clean them, it could be a hard bit of disc.

The light sometimes comes on whilst you start to break and other times we noticed if we had changed gear, so you could be right on the gearbox tunnel because when you break you normally change gear.

Will keep you informed.

Just had to say how spooky it was reading this thread as a) My name is Ally and b) i came on to find out why my orange light had come on!
Thanks for answering the other Ally, am sending other half to check out your suggestions tomorrow!

Just got back from the dealers. They checked my ECU fault log, and my failure was due to a CAN bus (communication between computers) error. This can happen intermittently.... its a bit like your home pc, turn it off turn it on again and everything is happy. He did say that if it keeps happening then the ECU for the HDC may be failing, but this is REALLY uncommon.

Sounds unrelated to your problem to be honest - but it may be worth finding someone with diagnostic kit to see what the ECU fault log says. Apparently it tells you what caused the fault, what speed you were doing when it happened (gulp!), how long the engine had been running etc etc. If it is a sensor issue then it should tell you which sensor to change too.
