Hi all.
I figured a new thread would make sense. I've had some help on another thread about my overheating problem for a 2000 4.6 V8 P38, and I'm now thinking I've either got a blown head gasket or a cracked block.

I'm thinking of my next step, and I'm considering using one of the additive products - k-seal, radweld, irontite etc.

My questions are:
Do these things sometimes work?
Is there a downside - ie do I risk creating a blockage somewhere that could make my problem worse?
Which is the best one to use?

Thanks in advance.
Turtled.

If you read through your previous thread like I have and just wasted 5 minutes of my life you would see these questions have been answered.

All of the above.

None of the above.

k seal will not work you could try irontite if your looking for a short term fix, if not start looking round at engine prices. for a new short end your looking around £2,000..

try irontite if anything, follow instructions to the letter you need to flush all anti freeze out before starting,if this works still look for a new engine as its a short term fix/bodge

holts wonderweld is the only medicine if you dont want to spend 2k,you will be back on the road in 30 mins,it will give you time to source a new engine

I'm sorry I wasted 5 mins of your life, but the point I'm trying to get to is to get various opinions on the same topic so I can attempt to make a considered and educated decision. Wammers has expressed just such an opinion just now, and I've had 2 or 3 other suggestions in my other thread. Surely the point of a forum is to try to tap into the combined wisdom of all of the readers? Which is what I'm trying to do. 2 or three opinions is great, but 10 or 20 is better....

I recently bought a second hand block from Emmetts of Colne. He pressure tests them and leaves them pressured over night to be sure.

Mine cost £500 and I'm just in the process of swapping over.

It's you problem, your call.

I just see it as a slap in the face to those who have taken the trouble to give you good advice.

Do you not think that If someone was to give you the wrong advice someone would say, actually ***** you are wrong because.......

Or are ya gonna wait untill someone says. "Save yourself a fortune mate all ya need to do is just crack n egg and put some pepper in your radiator and all your problems will be solved"

I've got a bucket of sand somewhere you can bury yer head in

Guy I'm too lazy or too stupid to do a search. What I'm really saying is I want to try and bodge it as I don't really have the cash or time to whip the heads off and see what the situation is- will this gunk last long enough to flog it on

there we go:D

Save yourself a fortune mate all ya need to do is just crack n egg and put in your radiator. Please remember though, that you dont need the yolk.

I've heard that you need three eggs in the header tank, and the bucket of sand needs to go in the top hose.... didn't I hear that from you...?

That bed you got out of the wrong side of this morning... I'd just go back to it... what the f*** did I do to you? You've not said a single constructive thing yet....

fixing the problem is the only fix.

Granted & accepted. Looking for the best short term option.

Thank you Daniel. I'll be speaking to them later.

Turtled you really are a humourless person, maybe consider ****ing off to Difflock or LRO if you feel that people are not massaging your ego by saying what you'd like to hear.

You could also try the report button, by it is powered by apathy-so nothing will happen

ooo - is there summat interestring to see?

oops - thats Fanny we asked. Oh ****!

Just the one will do but you don't need the yolk ;)
The sand was for your head

You'll get used to the ribbing Turtle, take it in the spirit meant is my advice. Folks around here are genuinely incredibly helpful and I've gotten out of more fixes than I can list thanks to their help (and occasional kicks up the backside!). Next time that you are trying to get a range of opinions however, try posting a poll. As you're new here you might not have noticed that option when starting your thread. You'll figure it out. :)
