Hi all

My cambelt snapped on Saturday in my 200TDi Disco. I need to order up replacement bits and I have two choices.

Genuine OEM belt, £35 - then all the other bits

A kit from Paddocks with a "Dayco" belt in, including tensioner, idler and gaskets, for £40.

Is this god value, or am I "buying cheap, buying twice". Also, I'm in Leicester, so have the option of free delivery from Rockingham Landrovers, do they generally sell much better parts?

are yu changing the water pump at the same time, cos i gather they can be buggers to do? I have the opposite prob.

Water pump looks OK - strangely it looks like a recent change (only had Disco 2 months). Somebody has recently changed pump and belt, but left the idler, which is more like a cam! That's what caused the belt to snap as it was rubbing against the case. :(

just found this - might help

Thats a known problem on the 300TDi, and there is a modified kit to fix it - didnt think it was on the 200 tho???

For what it's worth, I don't think it's a problem on all 200TDi's. Mine is on 167k and I think someone has left the same Idler pulley on since the 80k change done by LR. The pulley had worn away so much around the bolt that it was rocking all over the place. When the last belt was done, if someone had changed the idler then it woyld not have happened.
