eBay.co.uk Guides - Land Rover key remotes

Second hand Land Rover key remotes, should I buy or not? some, yes, and some, no. I will explain which ones work and which ones don't. I will also explain how to program some remotes yourself and save you some money on main dealer costs, Please read on........................
Range rover P38 remotes.

Range Rover P38 remotes will only work on the vehicle they were intended for, yes the key blade can be swapped over but the remote will never work on another vehicle and it cannot be programmed to another vehicle, thats why, when you order these from landrover they need your chassis number, the key is then programmed at the factory.

New P38 keys which have been ordered to your vehicles chassis number DO NOT need to be programmed using diagnostic computers so beware of dealers telling that you they need to program it. THEY ARE RIPPING YOU OFF. To initialise a new key the vehicle first needs to be disarmed either with the spare key or with the EKA code if the only remote you have is faulty or lost. Then insert the new key into the door lock and lock then unlock the car, test the new remote, it should now work.
P38 EKA code.

just dontwait till your goes tits up like i bloody well did, and was left with no key. have you got your eka code? if not get it you can get it for nothing you just need your log book..

ian barcley over the water will give it to you i will sort his number for you and pm it to you. nearest stealer to us is chester..

you can get eka code +radio code from main dealer for free some will give it over the phone or will need you to take log book to them.

you can get a spare fob from avon diagnostics but no key,you will have to google them as i lost there details, there usualy at most lr shows and can do it there.

Buy extra RF keyfobs from non LR dealers at your peril. More than enough posts on the forum. Key blades can be cut by most GOOD locksmiths.

"Penny wise...Pound foolish".....Too many seem to think that there is a cheap way of keeping a P38 on the road, carry on guys...you will soon wake up with a jolt.

.............. on that theme, I have a spare fob with a blank key which I bought on ebay ages ago, haven't found anyone who can cut the key yet or anyone who can match the fob to the car :):) if anyone wants to offer me a huge amount of cash I will send it to them .......:):)

I have a new key on order. Got to ask, quedash is your car a 97 in Charleston green. Rare to see one in this colour but mine is to.

Might be worth trying the previous owners. Maybe one of them has the original spare lying about and just forgot to hand it to the dealer when it was traded in. I am sure you can get a full list of previous owners from the DVLA for about a fiver. Got to be worth a couple of phone calls before splashing out for a new one.

never had a problem with these fobs from avon diagnostics and been using them for years on other landys and my current p38,i take it you only use genuine land rover part for you p38 then?

I actually lost my one and only key at the weekend. I ordered a new one from the local LR stealers and they wanted to have the vehicle towed in to initailise it with the key. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is possible to initiialise oneself. Can anybody confirm the procedure as I don't want to screw it up and land myself in more expensive trouble.
