Well, the intercooler goes between the turbo and the inlet manifold. Not sure how (or why!) you'll fit it to the 19J engine.

From what i've discovered so far, it provides lower heat stress to the engine, marginal improvement in mpg ( although that's debatable ). These factors are minimal i agree but there are no negatives to it, only slight positives, so hence the questions :D

So i got the turbo on top on the manifold, pipe from that to the top of the intercooler, bottom pipe on the intercooler to where? Does the airfilter still require to be in place where it is or can/does it have to be moved?

My Rocker breather is currently oiling up the chassis as it's disconnected from the air filter pipe in, so i'm not worried about that, what else needs attention?

Yes i've got the relevant radiator & intercooler plus frame, just need some tips on which pipes go where and what needs to be removed etc.
Often wondered about intercooling as it might deal with some of the heat stresses of 19J.As you say cant find much info.I wonder if the fuel map of the turbo can adapt to intercooling you might get alot of lag.I think replumbing and enlarging the oilcooler out of the rad might hep with the heat stresses too,but if you have the bits it will be good to intercool.Best of luck!

The pipe from intercooler goes onto inlet manifold.Maybe should be the top pipe tothe manifold its a while since I worked on intercooled.Sure one of tdi people knows.

Cheers Turboman :D

Still not 100% on what goes where, but looking into it tonight as i'm keen to get it done before the MOT as i know i'm gonna be busy when it comes to that.

Yeah, but the 19J only has a little diddy pipe between the turbo and the inlet manifold. This is what you need to replace with two pipes going to and from the intercooler. I appreciate the effort - but given that you're gonna be putting a 200tdi in at some point I still can't understand why you'd want to spend the time and energy doing this! :D

Ian.

If it was a Disco 200Tdi then any work will have to be undone as the turbo location etc is different, as the 200Tdi i'm putting in is a Defender version, any pipework will be re used on the TDi when it goes in ( although i need to check whether the Disco turbo has a larger diameter on the turbo than a 19J version, pipes may need some adjustment there, and yes i will be using a Disco turbo on the defender manifold ).

Two of the diddy rubber pipes might be used to connect the turbo outlet and the manifolld inlet via an IC. I think it should go Turbo-pipe to bottom of IC-pipe from top ofIC-inlet manifold but there are many who know more than I about IC.Understand Ians comments but think it could be worth it just for the interest of doing it;)

Tbh it's the fact it can be done as well, who knows, always interesting to do these things, one thing i love about the Landy ;)

Why is it when an MOT is due things go wrong? Popped into Halfords today to pick up some bits, whilst reversing into a bay, a weird clonking sound comes from underneath, clutch pushed in and still got drive ( moving slightly ). Stopped and checked underneath, no play in UJ's, all else seemed fine, so started her up and drove forward, no problems.

Drove home with no issue, went to park in the garage, reversed abit, same problem again, stuck it in first and moved forward, problem disappeared but i noticed the handbrake was on slightly ( positive i released it fully ) but can;t see how that can be related.

Will have a good look round the gearbox/clutch area tomorrow.

Nearside Front front Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.2.B.1f)

Nearside Front rear Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.2.B.1f)

2 areas needing attention for the MOT due, any ideas on part numbers, i'm being thick here

Cheers

Still haven't figured out wtf these parts are, i thought the track ends were attached to the steering rod, why a rear one?

Anyway few little jobs done, nothing serious, replaced the connectors on the engine temp and stop solenoid as they both worked loose over the past 2 days....sat at the side of the road thinking i'd run out of diesel, then checked the tank...you guessed the rest ;)

MOT due in the next 2 weeks, visited 3 garages locally and none have any real experience with Landy's, so will keep looking.

TREs are on my "to do" list this month. Got a lovely pair of Lemforder ones sat on the kitchen window sill, ready to fit at the weekend (assuming I'm allowed to play with the Landy!)

Just make sure you get the write ' handed ' threads ( spelt like that so not to confuse ).

If my memory is correct ( buster will clarify :) ) theres x2 right hand thread track rod ends and x1 left hand thread .
left and right handed go on your " track rod " and the other well im sure you can figure that out Paul :D .

Rear OS hub bearing kit arrived today plus a replacement door handle for the passenger side as i knocked it off whilst being abit heavy handed...

Should be done today/tonight, pics to follow :D

Small job this evening as waiting for me track rods & hub nut spanner to turn up, so replaced the passenger door handle....although lost the lock mechanism down the drain as i did it outside of the garage on the road.

Off to order a new one,so that's 3 doors all with a different keys!
