Hi Guys

Having real troubles with my fuel pump on my range rover, needs rebuilding we think.

Does anyone know if the Omega one will work if swapped over?

I know some of the BMW ones won't due to immobilisers and different flange size :(

Anyhow if anyone could confirm that'll be great.

Cheers
Dan :)

It's peaceful in here, isn't it?

No, I haven't got a clue about you problem but I thought I'd just come in to prove
a) your question can be seen by others
b) somebody has read it

bye bye

Seen other threads on this if you mean the injector pump, try a search. It's not coded and the BMW/Omega/P38 engines are basically the same, but there are different flange sizes. Thats all I know.

done a search but didn't get a definite answer.

I know the 525TDS engine/pump I tried didn't work :( the pump wouldn't inject fuel :(

If its not pumping fuel then its liekely the immobiliser and chances are you need a re-synch.

From what I've read there is no reason you can't swap engines completely and there are several members on here who have done it. There are apparently different size flanges for the diesel pumps between some of the engines of different ages and installations, I've not seen any definitive info on what they are but as you've done a full transplant then this shouldn't be a problem.

Issues seem to arise if you do/don't (unfortunately can't remember which so sorry, thats not much use!) swap the ECU's and even then then the Becm might not recognise the new ECU. IIRC the people who have found it straight forward have kept the original fuel pump. But then there are also quite a few on here who have replaced just the pump. So all permutations are doable. Scan down through DSE threads, there's a member here who has listed in his signature that he is running an omega pump in his DSE, I just can't remember who.

Also find out if there is a recommended independant near you with diags and see if he can come and do a re-learn for the BECM.

Hell of a job to swap pump

I have an engine out at the moment and 1 in bits

it is powered by the timing chain and reckon it would be a pig to swap over

Let me know if you need some photos, i have a blown engine semi disassembled if that helps

Hi Guys

Cheers for the info :)

I have a syncmate so no worries there. and am keeping with the original P38 ecu :)

I have no issues with changing the pump can do it in under an hour start to finish :)

Will carry on searching anyhow, I just want my Rangey working :(

I'm currently fitting a 95' 2.5 Omega engine to my 96' Range Rover. The plugs for the pump on the Omega and RR are exactly the same. As far as I know the Omega pump does not have a immobiliser.

I hopefully will have the engine fitted this weekend and will post whether or not the pump is working 100% with the RR ECU.

Hi!

The engine swap took longer time than expected, but yesterday I sucsessfully cranked the engine and it started on all 6 cylinders :)

The swap seems to be "straight forward".You have to replace the the turbo, air-con pump, sump incl oil pick-up, engine mounts and flywheel. You must also retrofit the wiring. I also replaced the steering pump. The contacts from the Omega dieselpump fitted the wiring of the P38. I also reused the P38s ECU.

The Omega dieselpump works in the P38 and it seems that there is no need for reprogramming the pump. However I've been told that the Opel pump does not have open source code for the EDC, so I'ts impossible to reprogram it?

However, I have one issue:

When idling the car at about 2000 RPM there is a "banging" noise from the engine (probably area around diesel injector number 4). There is also a diesel leak from the same injector (Diesel is "boiling" around the injector) . Does anyone know what causes this problem? I have not replaced the injector (It's the original Omega injector)

Thanks

I can confirm that you have to swap injector number 4 (refit the original RR injector) to get the engine function properly. You don't need to refit the diesel pump.

If not the engine will malfunction and make hammering noise and vibrate as described in my earlier post
