cheers guys only had her a couple of months de-egr her and just given her a full service the oil was like tar the garage i got her from lied me thinks they didnt service her,just looking on disc at the the other fluids think will do the diff and transfer box oils next month are they difficult?pulled the dipstick gear box oil out looks very clean crystal cleartake it thats a good thing
If its red ATF and its clear then yeah that is a good thing.Like big lad sed most of the oil satys in the torque converter so it looks like someone has dropped the oil and rplaced it and changed the filter and done a proper job on it.However as MHM sed if it isnt red thats very bad!Diff changing will probbaly take a decent mornings worth of work to do but get a squeezy filler of some sort.I used a funnel and it was a complete ball ache!:mad: The atf for the gear box is probbaly the same as yer power steering fluid so check the condition and level of that too.

yes is auto box its red not dirty and up to mark on dipstick too if i was to do gearbox how do i get the fresh oil in without looking on disc.think its better to be told how to do it as well as looking through book why are diffs hard is it cos of filler location drainings pretty easy by the look of it

Hi Newbie, there is a specific procedure for testing the level of the auto gearbox oil, are you familar with it? it's not just a matter of looking at the dipstick. If you're not familar with it, it goes like this:

1. Commence with a cold engine,

2. start the engine, put the gearbox into 1, let it settle for a couple of secs, then into reverse ditto, then P;

3. Now check the level on the dipstick - between low and high is only 0.25ltrs of atf.

When refilling, you do it via the dipstick hole, it's surprisingly easy as the atf oil is thin, so goes down smoothly.

The diffs are not hard to do, you just need a pump or something similar to get the new oil in. Btw, always always, when doing the transfer box and axles make SURE that you can undo the fill plug BEFORE undoing the empty plug !!!!!!

Good luck

Dave

good point that would have been bull in a china shop charged into it then not be able to undo fill plug do you fill it to the top or a measured amount aint had chance to check gear box oil yet working will be dark

If you're referring to the transfer box or the axles, you fill them up, via the fill hole, until oil starts to come back out, that's the level.
