While investigating flickering handbrake light (with no success, but that can wait...) I realised I have not seen the oil warning light come on with the ignition for a 'while'....... Defender td5 2000 vintage.

Stripped the dash to see what size bulb it was ..... Doh! Mega pcb with LED's !!! quite a surprise.

So, how the heck do I check whether the LED has failed - shirley the 'test' routine on the ignition switch should light it up? Or am I being dim and its just the sender unit / connection?

Just a bit worried that I would have no idea if the pressure was non-existent.

All thoughts much appreciated. Cheers, A

Oil pressure sender switches an earth, usually its no pressure=earth, pressure=no earth....so if the wire is broken or terminal dirty/corroded then you won't get a light come up ever.

Thanks for the cool calm and collected replies chaps. (I did check the oil level as the one certainty I could control).

Anyway - squint under manifold/turbo once I sussed where the pressure sender was, and the nice shiny connector hanging in mid air gave me a clue..... Quick clean and reinstate in sender block, and Bob is indeed my mother's brother.....! Light does still extinguish immediately after start up, so the nightmare of undetected pressure loss didn't come true either. Good for another 180000! Cheers, A:5bcheers2:
