Currently my handbrake warning light is not working. I have a brand new 300tdi wirirng loom. I have checked the bulb and swapped for a known good one that is working in other warning lights. I have disconnected the switch wire and run it straight to earth and still get no warning light illuminated on the dash, am I correct in assuming that with the ignition on this should illuminate the warning light?
I have measured the voltage at the handbrake switch wire and it is at 6v which I assume is correct?

Can I also check which one the handbrake warning light is so I am looking at and changing the correct bulb. Is the handbrake warning light the "(P)" and not the one that says "park brake"?

Which park, brake words or symbol used depended on which country the vehicle was going to. Australia insisted on the words one.[they had the power socket [fag lighter] different as well] Most others were happy with the P symbol in the bottom line. In the UK it was just an option usually found only on safari V8 models. The one you have lit is a symbol for PTO. It was a common loom so all wiring is there somewhere.
Looking for emoji's but can not find any more.

I actually get 2 lights. the 1 with the "P" and the 1 above to the right with "Brake & !" but then I have no idea if its right ;).

I think (dangerous I know) that the second 1 for me is a sort of bulb check for the low brake fluid level?

the pic is just off google rather than my dash.

My new loom from autosparks has the wiring for the handbrake, I just do not know which warning light is supposed to be illuminated. looking at my td5 it is the (!) light which is also the low fluid warning light so I will check the bulb in this and use a jumper cable on the fluid switch to check it illuminates.

Yes it is a brake fluid check light, when working correctly it should come on for a few seconds with the ignition key and only stay on if fluid low. Mine quit years ago so I just check reservoir with the old MK1 eyeball.:)

So I guess mine has been butchered/or broke at some point somehow by the Italian police or PO ;).
I suppose I should just lift the brake fluid lid and see if it does actually work, with the handbrake off of course;).

I also use the eyeball method but mine aren't quite MK1 any more👓.

Well looking at the warning panel plugs the yellow and white wire go to the side with the (p) not the side with the (!). So I am back to assuming it should be the (p) light that illuminates.

Any images of the front and rear connection of the cluster you are using as there are several variations

These are the two connection plugs. I will get some pictures of the actual warning panel next time I am there. I think it is the standard 300tdi one with the single indicator light. As I am looking for the late model version with the separate indicator lights that I used to have.

is your unit as shown ,check you are getting a good connection on pin 4 C230 as this feeds the hand brake lamp contrary to 1997 wiring diagram
