Oil light

On my r reg 300tdi , after a while the oil light comes on at tick over (750rpm) , it goes off at just over 1000rpm , the oil is up to the max on the dip stick , any ideas , or is it just one of those things.

could be faulty oil pressure switch or worn engine, try replacing switch first its cheap

sensor or pump.... investigate it ASAP

Faulty switch or pump, worn engine bores/rings or wrong grade of oil.

Switch cost a fiver max and 5mins to replace, the spring and/or diaphram within the switch do weaken over time.

Mine was flickering on and off so I changed the oil and it fixed it. I probably over used the oil and it was starting to get useless.

Check it ASAP or you might foook it up

been lots of threads on this problem. 90% cured by replacing pressure switch as already suggested. Cheap and easy to do. very good point also about age of oil,

I fitted an oil pressure gauge and it made quite a difference to the pressure when I changed the oil and filter.

The old oil was giving 60psi on cold but would drop to 20psi when warmed up on idle but when driving would be 20-30 psi

20 might mean an oil light flicker when idling as I think it should be around 25psi

After the change I now have 80+ psi cold and 25-55psi when warmed up.

If you have not changed the oil in a while then its worth doing.

The switch could also be changed as its so cheap as well.
