Hi, don't know if anyone can help?
I just acquired a 90 with a 19J engine (yes I'm aware of it's many foibles)
Just changed the oil n filter, the book says fill with 6.85 litres of oil but.......
..... if I put that much in it would be 2inches above the high fill line????
It don't take much to confuse me but what I do
Wrong dipstick? Wrong information? Some places on net say 7.7 litres
I'd need waders with that much in:confused:

Thanks Batface:mil31:

Sounds like your dipstick has moved and now is showing an incorrect reading.
This is a known issue with the 200tdi, not sure if other engines suffer.
The dipstick is held at the correct height and if this loosens it slides into or out of the block thus changing its data point and hence gives an incorrect reading.

Capacity is 6.85 litres (6 in the sump, 0.85 in the filter)...

get a new dipstick tube, LR part ERC8980 or a new olive LR part 236408.

Well thanks all for your help tho none of this seems to solve my problem, the dipstick is secure with the olive in place, it appears to be the correct dipstick but 5litres fills to the high line.
I've scoured the web and come across various other owners who have the same problem yet no definitive answer as to why or what to do, I've read stories were owners have put the stated amount of oil in and remarked the dipstick and others who have run as is with the 5litres of oil on the high fill mark,
hmmmm what to do........ I knew I should have got a nice series 3

they have been several dipsticks and tubes over the years its quite possible they are mismatched just fill with required measured amount and remark stick if cap on stick is still soldered in place
