Oil Change Engine Clean Product

I will be doing my 1st oil change this time myself
engine is running fine done about 140,000 miles bought
fuel Filter oil filter air filter from paddocks oil from
my local car part shop Valvoline Turbo 15w-40
good quality oil it will end up costing me about
£40 instead of £90 at my local specialist Land rover
dealer basically my son-in law asked if was going
to use a engine cleaning product that you run just
before the engine oil change I don't know anything
about this is best not to use one or are there some
advantages to doing this if so which product

BTW 1994L 300 tdi Defender 90 CSW

get yourself a bottle of forte engine flush or wynns for that matter, tip the bottle in run for 20 mins and robert will be your mothers brother

Forte and Wynns what do think is best for the 90 any other

Forte is an excellent product and have used it many times, if your oil is changed regular and with good oil the cleaners aint gonna do that much, i only tend to use it on cars i got second hand and the aint got great service history just so i know that nothin untoward has been put in to hide engine issues. Sometime after using the flushes you can start to get small weeps from gaskets as they clean all the crud up that can block small leak points and i remember how you are bout oil leaks.

Yer good point you remember then

Well the Defender has a
good history of all its oil changes including the ones I have paid
for I don't want to start any leaks I only mentioned it as my son
in law used to use it in his vans he is a White van man Courier

I have no engine problems so should I leave well alone

If you got good servicing wi good oil id leave out you aint gonna gain anythin from it, so save your money and by some more polish or something

We use forte in every service, no problems. The trouble is with the deposits that are sealing the gaskets they are also wearing away other parts of the engine at the same time. Wear is the most expensive thing to fix rather than gaskets. I'd give it a flush regardless, you wouldn't eat your dinner off a dirty plate would you?

Have you ever seen anything in an owners manual about using an engine flush prior to changing the engine oil ? Answer is no, same with addatives, all you need to do is change oil at recommened intervals , and use oil to req spec. all the rest is just a waste of money JMHO
BTW been running landrovers 40 years, and rover trained mech, with my own garage for last 20

I bet a pound to a penny they CHARGE the customers for the "Forte" flusher.
Ergo, they make more money.
Making as much money as possible is the name of their game.
They make ALL of their money by billing customers.

I wonder what they charge for labour per hour?

ME? I fix all my stuff, cars, tractor, dumpers, chainsaws, everything all for FREE because I learned (a) I can do it myself, and (b) I can do it BETTER than any couldn't care less druggie in the garage on minimum wage.

MY advice? Stay well clear of all magic potions. The only magic they perform is to magic money out of your pocket into their till.

If you were to get it from a shop would they give it to you?

That's the aim of most companies.

You have to cover your overheads somehow and these days it's a big amount.

Good,me too, and probably everyone else on this forum. The only difference is the amount of up to date technical information the Land Rover dealer has.
