oil 200tdi

Well having spent best part of 4 hours trying to service my landy! (couple of them laid on the cold floor) I managed to break a chain filter remover in the process too! I got it all done BUT when I've gone to fill her back up with oil its reading way over the max mark and I only put 5.5 litres in it! And when I've poured the old oil back into bottle is only reading just over 2ltrs that's come out, plus filter oil n a little bit of spillage, it was done on a flat surface and it was left to drain for a 3 hours too. I also regularly check the oil and the stick reads normal but sometimes the oil light does flick on

So have I got a dodgy dip stick or is the old oil stuck somewhere? What can I do now daren't drive it.

Ps those filter straps are crap!! Lol

have you started engine then rechecked once filters full

Did you remove the oil filler cap before draining the oil and did you remove the filter during the draining process?

Also was the engine warm before you started?

Might also have helped if you'd run it first so the oil was a lot less viscous

Check the tube the dip stick fits into hasn't slipped into the engine it has an olive and collar arrangement and the tube can slip down through the olive and collar giving a false/overfull reading.

Mine takes 7 litres to fill to the mark

Forgot to mention I ran it before I emptied it

Yes removed filler cap and attempted to remove filter wouldn't come off, as mentioned I broke the chain on the filter removal thingy! But the filter ain't gonna make 3ltrs up surely?

James Doing that in morning now as had to go out, concerned only 2 n a bit ltrs came out! N obviously the overfill reading

This is the dipstick holder it's always been in this position

After measuring the dip stick holder it would seem it's only 20cm when it should be 29cm I believe? Not happy cos it means it's been running round low on oil for months! !

Nice new dipstick holder fitted with the olive in the correct position not 3 inches up from where it should've been!

On the positive side at least it weren't over filled....

I just had the same problem on my vehicle.
5 litres filled it to max yesterday!
Took the dipstick tube out and found the olive was about 30mm up the tube.
I have now soldered the olive in its original position 5mm from the end of the tube.
