Off side headlight inoperative

Can anyone suggest anything to get this headlight working? We have replaced everything we can think of, including the wiring to the light and the bulb, but still no joy.

Yes.

The earth connection at the lamp and/or on the body work, also each headlamp has it's own fuses one for dip one for main and one for side. All the six fuses are located in the main fuse box below the steering wheel.

Thank you for the suggestions,but we have renewed the earths and checked the fuses.

next step is probably the switch

Might be a long-shot, but have you looked at the "Dim/Dip" unit ? The way it works seems to depend on the model year, but as there is a relay involved, it's quite possible for it to go wrong !

think its a yellow or blue relay under the fuse panel on the driver side, bit of a bugger to get into and is held in by a screw.

Have you lost both the dip beam and the main beam?

Yes I have. I have since changed the dim/dip control unit, but still nothing. In fact, this had no plug in it when I was checking where it is, which suggests someone had already done a by-pass. However, I would't have a clue how this was done, therefore I can't test it!

Both the dip and the main depend on one earth, I know you say you have checked but as the dip/main relay applies to both sides of the car at the same time and we know the bulb is good then it leaves only the earth, try this again?

The chance of losing both circuits at the same time due to a single connection (barring earth) is very very rare. I have seen some dip/main relays with two sets of contacts i.e. one for each side so thats a very thin straw to grasp at.

Other than that try probing the cables with a tester working your way back to the switch/relay/fuse box.
