Hi

My sons Freelander TD4 has developed a strange 'squeak' under braking (and occasionally turning??). Changed the rear shoes and cylinders recently and assumed it was the brakes bedding in but the noise is not going away. In fact my son can't even tell me if it was making a noise before we touched the brakes - he only noticed it when one of his mates pointed it out (muppet!).

Having a good drive round with head hung out the window it almost sounds like it is coming from the middle of the car - could the VCU or support bearings cause a noise under braking?? The VCU and bearings were changed about 6 mths ago and have given no trouble to date. Brakes function fine. Also noticed the rear diff is leaking now (bloody money pit - luckily not my money!) from the front where the prop joins - could this be a cause of noise ???

Any pointers greatly appreciated.:)
