Hiya, my '93 disco decided not to start out of the blue yesterday. AA man connected the battery directly to the starter and got it going. Since then its started fine!

I think its related to my keyfob which stopped unlocking the doors (and the case is falling apart) the other day; I've had to get in by opening the passenger door with the key and pulling the lock up inside the driver door! (for some reason the key won't open the driver door!?)

When it wouldn't start, an orange exclamation came up on the dash.

Am I right in thinking it was something to do with the immobiliser not un-arming itself? Should a new keyfob solve it? Just worried about it doing it again!

Sorry if this has been asked a zillion times, couldn't find nowt, cheers!

Oh yeah, its an L-reg 3 door 3.5 auto.

yeh, you got it!
Same thing happened to me,
got a mobile car alarm lock expert guy round and he replaced keyfob, which i'd tried to salvage with pins, wire, matchsticks and god knows what, and reprogrammed something under dash..for wait for it...£144.00..fkcin quid..i had to bite the bullet on it, it was saturday, i was stuck on a customers driveway, and i weren't going nowhere..
Keep bumping your thread see if someone can give you a less costly solution .:bump2:

i bought batteries ya smarmy muppets, but the fob fell to pieces....
fuhkin ell,...., **** arse little dry solder joints, perished rubber, broken plastic micro switches..
:deadhorse: :baby: :baby: new battery:baby: :baby:

yeh right.

yeh right.

Sometimes when the fob case falls apart it is just that the 2 parts have become loose. This being the cae you can get replacement cases on ebay for a couple of quid. That'll hold it all in place again and a new battery will help it work better.

Sounds like in your case the plip was too far gone for.

In his case however, I would replace the battery first and if that cured it then I would get a new refurb kit off ebay afterwards. If the battery doesn't work then he can buy a new fob.

It is worth shopping around though. I paid £70 for 1 new and an old fob to be programmed to my curent landy.

yeh that'll be right,
mine cost so much, due to calling him out and the need for a complete replacement fob, if i;d seen to it earlier, this outfit would have done me,
But you live and learn.

Mine was to call him out, supply and programme a new fob and also reprogramme an old fob. All for £70.

I used a local guy rather than anyone on ebay. I would buy a refurb casing off ebay but not the whole plip. There are a lot of cheap and nasty copies on there.

for what its worth, and this may be of help for the future, the guy later helped me out , over the phone, when the battery was disconnected and reconnected after fitting a new stereo, and the locking, alarm and immobiliser ceased to function with common logic. and couldn't turn alarm off, start car, get out of it.

Remove battery from fob,
Hold down lock and unlock buttons together for ten seconds, to drain fob of any power.
Replace battery.
Activate unlock button 15 times.

Resets system, and your off.

fault was something to do with ommited component on alarm circuit, dunno , capacitor perhaps?

Battery ain't going to work in mine- the fob has turned itself into a maraca!

According to the remotekey geeks my immobiliser is still armed because the lights don't flash when I unlock the doors (or something) so I've got to send the ECU for re-programming for the new key. Means nothing to me, I'll just let them get on with it!

Cheers

This has been done a lot of times in the past so you can search for more info - the immobiliser can fail and doesn't allow the 12v feed to the starter. When you unlock the with the fob, it also allows the circuit for the fuel solenoid to work, and it allows the circuit for the starter etc... If the AA man got it going by putting the battery onto the starter then the fuel shutoff was being held open no bother. Which means the fob did its job just fine.

I had to change the wiring beind the dash in my disco because the immobilser developed this fault, I simply put a bypass link onto the starter wire so that it was no longer part of the circuit and when I turned they key to start it went direct rather than via the imob.

You can also by the bypass part for about £5, but 2inches of wire and some solder will work too!

Hi, 60 for a new key (they can't rebuild the single button ones) and 20 for the ecu inc post/vat. Cheers for that discomania, I sent the ecu off yesterday so I'll just have to see what happens now... I guess if there's anything wrong with it they'll find out?

I got rid of my p38 because of all the electric crap which kept going pyscho, deliberately found myself a really basic disco (its even got wind up windows!) and just about the only electric thing on it leaves me stranded. Maybe I should get an S1?

when i bought my 90 the guy could only find 1 set of keys/fob said he should have them somewhere but after 3 weeks i thought if lost the only set i had i'd be fooked so phone the local stealers was quoted £38 + for the fob and £48 + for the programing of the ecu:wtf: :screaming_bug_eye_f :screaming_bug_eye_f
got a fob off fleabay (full reconed 1) for £16 including postage
then the day after it arrived the guy i bought it from rang and said the last owner had finally found the spare set so posted um to me :clap2:
atleast have got a spare incase 1 does go tits up

Jobs a goodun!

ECU didn't need re-programming so they didn't charge me for it. Screwed the ECU back in, pressed the new fob 3 times and wow- the locks go up and down and the indicators flash! I can even unlock it from the other side of the road, beat that

Well impressed with the remotekey lot.

cheers
