Hi I have heard you can access OBD using tripmeter is this true and if so how is it done

Not as far as I know. I don't believe you can on any LR vehicle. Compatible diagnostic equipment is required.

I've googled blink tests and tried them on my '98s ODB port - all I get is sparks!

I have not seen this on ant TD4 FL1 the R40 as it, you really need an Hawkeye tool, worth the money in my opinion, maybe a T4 if you work or help out at meets etc on other cars,

I can get some information via TorqPro and my phone app - engine temp is good, battery volts is another, will also clear the odd fault code.
