Hi, I've got a 3 year old Disco 4 and its soon to become a Disco 5. I've become increasingly aware of the security issues surrounding keyless entry vehicles and criminals using access to the OBD port to re-programme a key and then drive off with your vehicle.

Question.. Why have Land Rover placed the OBD socket in a relatively easy access location? Why is the OBD port not even covered with a blanking plate? If someone breaks in then they will be using 'feel' to locate and insert re-programming device. Surely by concealing it more will slow down any potential thief? Also, why not have a simple cover like a glove box flap and put a simple lock? I just find this amusing that Land Rover have located the switch in a accessable area and not even covered.

Thoughts?

Same reason Defenders dont some with a disklok as standard...

You can buy OBD locks for around £100.

Keep your keys in a metal/lead box away from the front door.
Yep, got a simple metal tin and that works perfectly in blocking the key signal. Another idea is to insert a small 'shim' into the OBD socket with some tweezers. Again maybe a bit fiddly but as long as you remove when car in for a service it will stop any plug being inserted easily into the OBD socket

u can actually buy obd2 locks and also dummy obd2 ports , which hides the original one

indeed with all the thefts of D4 s the keyless entry can be turned off inc buying a fereday bag which are around. fiver

plus when u get ur D5 don’t forget ur spare wheel security plate or it might go walkies ;)
thanks for that. Where can you get the security plate?
Also, sounds like a silly question but disabling the 'keyless' entry function will stop your key being cloned I guess?
